WWE: Vickie Guerrero's Character Overdue for a Change

Bill AtkinsonJun 5, 2018

Right off the top, I want to say that it is about time that Vickie Guerrero’s character is getting a change.

Even one that's apparently going to be a temporary assignment is welcome in my book.

In case you missed the Oct. 22 episode of Monday Night Raw, AJ Lee resigned as the Raw General Manager amid allegations that she “fraternized” with a Superstar. WWE Chairman Vince McMahon announced that Guerrero would assume the duty of “Managing Supervisor” until a new GM is named.

Guerrero came out to her usual heat and immediately created a main event between Sheamus and CM Punk—the “largest lumberjack match in Raw history.” She then told AJ to pack some boxes and get out of her office.

That led to a roll-on-the-mat encounter between Guerrero and Lee.

It was revealed later in the show that Guerrero told management that AJ was fraternizing with John Cena.

That is another storyline that is best addressed elsewhere for now.

Right now, let’s focus on Vickie Guerrero.

Since she burst onto the scene months after the death of her husband, Eddie, Vickie Lynn Guerrero has been placed into some very controversial storylines. She has been an on-screen authority figure, a spurned bride, a sometime wrestler, a manager and a cougar. Her current stint has her managing “former lover” Dolph Ziggler.

Guerrero is one of the WWE’s most consistently solid workers. She has soldiered on with just about every storyline the creative team has thrown at her. Her screechy, “Excuse me!” voice always draws decent heat from the crowd.

That said, it is purposely unclear just exactly what her duties as Managing Supervisor on Raw will be. Heck, even McMahon claimed he does not know what the job is.

If the creative team is smart, and I think they are, they will seize this opportunity to transition Guerrero away from Ziggler. All signs point to Ziggler eventually winning the World Championship and breaking with his longtime manager, anyway.

Giving her this supervisor position opens the door for that move.

If that happens, It’s quite possible that this new storyline will lead to the long-awaited return of Ric Flair to the WWE.

He could come in as the new Raw General Manager or he could come in as Ziggler's new manager. The latter makes sense since, Ziggler channels Flair in his ring work. It would be like Flair is managing his younger self.

Either way, Flair usurps Vickie Guerrero.

And in her usual way, she will let everyone know she is not happy about it.

Here is where several actions come into play:

Would the C-team use this move to turn her into a face and have her try to get back at Flair and Ziggler? Or would they bank on her reliable heat reaction and have her do something dastardly to WWE management for bringing in Flair as GM and leaving her out in the cold?

It could be that she gets mad about losing Ziggler and forms a face stable to take out Flair and Ziggler (and whoever else joins forces with them).

It also could be that Guerrero is outraged that she did not get the top management position, so she forms a major heel stable to show McMahon and the rest of the WWE management that she will not give up her power so quietly.

She plays such a good heel that any possible face turn could be a moot point.

Decisions, decisions.

Whatever they decide, it is definitely time to let Vickie Guerrero step out of the “woman behind the man” role she has played for so many years and take her deserved place in the spotlight.

Either way, I do not think she will disappoint.
