The New Yankee Stadium: Will the Ghosts of Yankees Past Be Joining Us?

Kevin RozellMar 8, 2009

(The Voice of Yankees Universe) By Lucy Albero

Have you seen those alluring photos of our new stadium that Kevin Rozell was kind enough to upload to The Voice of Yankees Universe? Our new cathedral looks spectacular.

Of course, many people believe building this new stadium comes with a hefty price and that is the fear—or elation—that the ghosts of Yankees Past may not be moving along with us.

While most shrug off such concerns as absurdly nonsensical, a great number of people believe that Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, etc. will be hovering over an old, abandoned stadium while we inhabit our breathtaking new one.

Skeptics believe that the Spirits of Yankees Past can only live within that concrete, dirt and grass we left behind, but not within the awesome memorabilia we took with us.

Well, I beg to differ ever so strongly. Yankee tradition is made up of living spirit that can’t be confined to one place since it survives in the hearts and minds of dedicated Yankees fans and not within the stone and sod that our competition has been treading upon for the past 100 years.

Naysayers are quick to point out that history was made in the old Yankee Stadium so that’s where it will stay, but I’m quicker to respond that history repeats itself by following humanity and not by being buried in inanimate structures and ruins, never to be heard from again.

The memories of our ancestors are perpetuated through human love and interest; therefore, our Yankees ancestors will continue to perpetuate themselves and survive wherever we grateful fans direct our attention.

You can be sure we would never forsake our Yankee Greats merely because we have a new address; likewise, our storied Heroes would never “ditch” us for the same reason.

In a nutshell, when our New York Yankees are winning our 27th World Series in our new stadium, Ruth, Mantle, DiMaggio, etc. will be cheering alongside us and not sulking and pouting bitterly in an abandoned building within our sights.

Our energy is powerful enough to encompass both buildings so that these intelligent spirits will hear the celebration and be compelled to join us.

I’d venture to say they will eagerly come visit (and be sorely tempted to stay) the very first time they hear their names being lauded over the loudspeaker within earshot of the festering dirt patch our adversaries wish they were buried under.

However, if I’m wrong, please join me for a séance to be held right before Opening Day, so that we can summon these lost, stubborn ghosts and beckon them to follow us across the street to a new life in our spiffy new home.
