New York Yankees Pounce On Tigers Early In 7-3 Victory

C.C. Sabathia made his first start of the spring tonight. He got the job done. He pitched two ininngs, allowing two hits, an unearned run, and struck out two. He threw 26 pitches (20 for strikes).

Aceves came in after and he tossed 2 2/3 innings, allowing one hit and no runs. Veras, Claggett, and Robertson pitched an inning each, and combined for one hit allowed, no runs and six strikeouts.

Johnny Damon hit an RBI double off of Justin Verlander in the third inning. Nick Swisher hit an RBI groundout, and Duncan hit an RBI single to bring the score to 4-0.

Pena, Nunez and Curtis all picked up an RBI as well. Jesus Montero went 1-1 on the game, and he maintains his .667 average. It seems like he picks up a hit every time he comes to the plate. In total, the Yanks racked up 14 hits, knocked in seven runs and they drew four walks.

     The Yankees are now 3-4-1 in spring training play. They are also 0-2 in exhibition games against WBC teams. The Yankees will host the Atlanta Braves tomorrow at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida. The game will start at 1:15PM ET. The game will be telvised on the YES Network and will broadcasted on the radio on WCBS 880. The pitching match up will be Chien-Ming Wang vs. Jair Jurrjens.
