NFL Spreads Week 4: Home Teams Guaranteed to Cover

Patrick ClarkeJun 6, 2018

After watching Monday night's debacle in Seattle, it seems nothing is guaranteed in the NFL.

Still, I'll attempt to challenge that notion this weekend. Home teams fare better than road teams in the NFL and that leads me to believe that these three teams will easily cover the spread this coming Sunday.

Here are three home teams guaranteed to cover the spread in Week 4.

Denver Broncos (-6.5)

Peyton Manning and company will host division rival Oakland this Sunday afternoon in a must-win game for Denver. I can't imagine the Broncos coming back from a 1-3 start to the season, not with road games at New England and San Diego coming up.

They have to win, don't they?

The Raiders are already 0-1 on the road this season, having lost by 22 points at Miami. It's hard to see a team that was viewed by many as one of if not the worst in the NFL before last week beating Manning at home in Week 4.

I'll take John Fox's Broncos every time in this matchup. They'll win by at least 10 points at home. Denver's defense has been playing excellent football and the Raiders' offense has been one-dimensional to start the year. Darren McFadden nearly has as many receiving yards as rushing yards.

Green Bay Packers (-9)

Although some are doubting that the Packers can cover a nine-point spread after losing the way they did in Seattle this past Monday night, their opponent, the win-less New Orleans Saints have serious problems of their own. To put it bluntly, pretty much everything other than the passing game.

Meanwhile the way Green Bay fought back into its Week 3 matchup with the Seahawks was promising. They shut out Russell Wilson and the Seattle offense in the second half and strung together some impressive drives to come back to take the lead.

Not to mention Aaron Rodgers and the Packers' offense is capable of exploding for a big play at any moment, and most everyone around the league knows it. For me, Green Bay's early season offensive struggles aren't concerning but rather disappointing.

New Orleans will face a bad matchup on Sunday as well. The Saints rank fifth in passing offense, but will be taking on the NFL's top pass defense on the road. Considering the Packers should be able to stop what New Orleans does best, they should easily cover the spread in Week 4, and win by at least two touchdowns at Lambeau.

Dallas Cowboys (-3.5)

Dallas will be home for the second straight Sunday in Week 4 when it hosts the Chicago Bears. The Bears have been dominant at home, outscoring their opponents 64-27 at Soldier Field. But not so much on the road thus far, where their one loss has come this season.

Chicago looked inept offensively at Green Bay two weeks ago and will need to make sure its offense travels in Week 4 if its to have any chance at beating the 'Boys in Jerry's World.

Dallas boasts the NFL's second-best pass defense behind the Packers, and will make open receivers a rare sight for Bears quarterback Jay Cutler. Cutler has just three touchdowns this season but has tossed six picks.

He's been known to come unglued quickly, and I expect to see the 'Cutler pouting face' by halftime. Look for Dallas to take a page out of Green Bay's book and make life miserable for Chicago this weekend. I predict they will win by a touchdown and cover the spread with ease.
