Torrey Smith and Underrated Fantasy WRs Sure to Star in Week 4

Tim DanielsSep 26, 2012

Deciding which fantasy football wide receivers to start during any given week is often a pain-staking process. Since the position remains so volatile, it's difficult to pinpoint which receivers will be stars and which ones will be duds.

Even the position's elite players have their fair share of down games during the season. It all comes down to the matchups and a little bit of luck. With that in mind, let's take a look at three underrated wideouts who should have big games in Week 4.

Torrey Smith

Smith deserved every bit of praise he received for having a monster game less than a day after his younger brother died. It was a challenging situation and he rose to the occasion better than anybody could have expected.

The Baltimore Ravens rising star is on the cusp of becoming an elite fantasy receiver. He certainly has the ability to reach that level thanks to his game-changing speed, and he's made big strides in better understanding the finer points of the position since last season.

He should back up last week's big game with another one on Thursday night. The Cleveland Browns secondary has had virtually no success slowing down opposing passing attacks, and Smith will ensure that trend continues.

Denarius Moore

After being slowed by a hamstring injury to start the season, Moore finally looked close to 100 percent last week en route to five catches and a touchdown. It's the type of production fantasy owners were expecting when they drafted him.

His health, paired with the fact Darrius Heyward-Bey is still on the mend after a scary hit last week, means Moore is in line for a lot of targets in Week 4. That's good news against a Denver Broncos secondary that's best described as porous.

Moore doesn't get a lot of attention, but he's clearly Carson Palmer's favorite target. Since the Raiders are averaging more than 40 passing attempts per game, that should equate to a lot of big games now that he's shaken off the rust.

Malcom Floyd

Expectations were raised for Floyd after the departure of Vincent Jackson, but his results have been mixed. The San Diego Chargers have struggled to develop consistency in the passing game with Floyd making just 13 grabs in three weeks.

It isn't all bad news for Floyd, though. He has eight more targets than anybody else on the team, so he's clearly Philip Rivers' go-to receiver. Now it comes down to turning those targets into big games on a weekly basis.

If the Chargers offense is going to turn things around, a matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs would be a good place to start. The Chiefs are giving up 33 points per game, meaning there should be plenty of holes in the secondary for Floyd to utilize.
