Top 10 Stupidest Things A-Rod Said

Bronx Baseball DailyMar 5, 2009

Matt Marrone of the NY Daily News came up with a list of the Top 10 Foot-In-Mouth Alex Rodriguez moments. I’m not going to just reprint everything he wrote, but I will highlight the top three. Check out his article for the rest of them, but without further adieu here are the best three according to Marrone:

cynthia-rodriguez3. “Last year, I got tested 9-10 times. We have a very, very strict policy and I think the game is making tremendous strides.” - Feb. 20, 2008

That was a great quote because there is no way he could have been tested that much unless he had previously tested positive. So a statement that was supposed to prove his innocence either let on that he had actually failed or is just a stupid idiot.

2. “I knew we weren’t taking Tic Tacs. I knew that.” - Feb. 17, 2009

This was in reference to his statement that when he was taking steroids he had no idea what he was doing, but knew it was something bad. Personally I wouldn’t have put this so high up, but it was pretty stupid.

1. “I’ve never felt over matched on the baseball field. I’ve always been in a very strong, dominant position. And I felt that if I did my work as I’ve done since I was, you know, a rookie back in Seattle, I didn’t have a problem competing at any level. So, no.” - Dec. 16, 2007

Definitely his biggest foot-in-mouth moment because we found out later he was definitely using steroids. A flat out lie by one of the biggest liars in New York sports history.

At the time I wrote this, the fan favorite was this one:

5. “Jeter’s been blessed with great talent around him. He’s never had to lead. He can just go and play and have fun. And he hits second - that’s totally different than third and fourth in a lineup. You go into New York, you wanna stop Bernie and O’Neill. You never say, ‘Don’t let Derek beat you. He’s never your concern.’” - April 2001 issue of Esquire

Of course this may be the most famous of them all and doesn’t need any explanation. Just stupid.
