Michigan vs. Notre Dame: Denard Robinson Will Best Stellar ND Defense

The Notre Dame hopeful may want to hold back any excitement with quarterback Denard Robinson and the Michigan Wolverines coming to town. 

The Fighting Irish are undefeated this season with a 3-0 record, which is the first time since 2002 that they have been without a loss entering their fourth game. The last Notre Dame team to do that eventually went on to win eight straight before suffering their first loss to Boston College. 

Much of the credit for the impressive start has to go to the defense that has allowed a total of 30 points in the past three games. This ranks them as the eighth-best defense in the nation. 

But last week’s 20-3 shellacking of Michigan state isn’t going to happen considering that the Michigan Wolverines score an average of 36 points per game. 

Michigan has been as great on offense as Notre Dame has been on defense. Quarterback Denard Robinson and the Michigan offense managed to put up 14 points in their first game against Alabama. Even though they lost, their offense showed they can produce against one of the best defenses that has allowed zero points since then. 

Something definitely has to give in this matchup of two of the three winningest football programs of all time. 

Robinson is an offensive powerhouse that is capable of doubling the Fighting Irish’s allowed points. Notre Dame has been able to stop quarterbacks before, but never a running quarterback like Denard Robinson. 

In Robinson’s last game versus Massachusetts, he passed for 291 yards and three touchdowns, which is an impressive feat itself. But he also rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown as well. Robinson’s versatility may prove to be too much for the Fighting Irish. 

Look for Notre Dame to adjust their defensive schemes early on in order to eliminate the threat of the run as they aim to continue their undefeated streak.
