TOUR Championship 2012: Day 1 Leaderboard Updates, Highlights and More

Mike ShiekmanJun 5, 2018

Tiger Woods holds a share of the lead with Justin Rose at the conclusion of the TOUR Championship’s first round.

Rory McIlroy and Woods were paired together in the opening round at East Lake GC, with Tiger getting the best of his adversary. The FedEx Cup’s flavor of the week involved Greg Norman’s comments that Woods is intimidated by McIlroy.

On this day, Tiger looked the part of the intimidator. He finished three strokes ahead of Rory, rendering all whispers leading up to Thursday as null and void.

Woods did miss birdie opportunities to be in pole position heading into Day 2, including two putts on both the 17th and 18th greens. It’s easy to harp on the negatives, though. Woods’ six birdies are tied for the tournament’s best, just as his final score.

Here’s how leaderboard ended up as the curtain came down on Thursday’s action.

Highlights

Matt Kuchar returns to nearby home at East Lake and seemed comfortable in the first round, posting a three-under par score. Here's his interview on how he thought his Day 1 went:

Reaction

The TOUR Championship isn’t all about who finishes at the top of the leaderboard Sunday. For Rickie Fowler, this weekend marks a milestone in his young career:

Once again, Woods stares down the field from the top of the leaderboard. History tell us that from this position, he is right where he wants to be.

"

Tiger Woods has 1st round lead for 27th time in PGA TOUR career. He's won 50 pct of the events in his career when holding 1st round lead.
