Manny Pacquiao: Boxing Star Must KO Juan Manuel Marquez

Donald WoodSep 19, 2012

When Manny Pacquiao fights Juan Manuel Marquez for the fourth time on Dec. 8 at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, the battle will not be about the money, the titles or the notoriety.

This fight is all about pride.

While many fans wanted to see Pacquiao avenge his loss to Timothy Bradley with a rematch, the veteran boxer knows that there is more intrigue around a fourth fight with Marquez than another bout with Bradley.

At least right now.

Pac-Man has never been one to mince words, and the boxing star told Yahoo! Sports that he already beat Bradley. With his career and the career of Marquez coming to a close sooner rather than later, it is imperative to Pacquiao and his camp that all the questions about his feud with JMM are answered first.

After three previous fights and three controversial outcomes, many boxing insiders are skeptical of how interesting this fourth bout will be, but Manny and his camp have made it very clear that they are going into this fight looking for a knockout victory.

Pacquiao spoke to the media (via ESPN) about why he wanted to fight Marquez again and how he wants it to end this time around:

"

I want to erase the doubt of the last three fights. There's so many people still asking if I won the fights. I think to myself, 'Something is wrong. I have to do it again.' This time, I will train hard to put this fight up in the history of boxing. I want to make this fight short. I want to knock him out.

"

While the loss to Bradley killed most of the momentum and likelihood of the possible super-fight between Pac-Man and Floyd Mayweather, losing that fight the way he did showed Pacquiao what the Marquez camp was thinking and feeling after their fights.

Pacquiao wants to clear up all the doubt.

The hope from Freddie Roach and company is that the Bradley loss lit a fire underneath Pac-Man, and the fighter that shocked the world during his ascension to greatness can return to that level to destroy Marquez in the defining moment of the four-fight war.

After Manny beats Marquez, Bradley will likely be next, but that will only happen if Pac-Man knocks JMM out and proves to himself that he is still the fighter he was years ago.

If Pacquiao loses the fight or it ends with another judge’s decision, it may be the last time we see the prize fighter step into a ring. That’s what you call a pressure situation.
