NFL Week 3 Predictions: Showcasing Most Intriguing Narratives and Storylines

Donald WoodSep 19, 2012

With Week 3 of the 2012 NFL regular season already upon us, it’s time to find the matchups that have the most intriguing storylines and narratives leading into them.

It is still very early in the season, but some of the better teams in the league haven’t played that way so far this year. Week 3 is the ultimate litmus test to determine which of these teams are contenders and which are pretenders.

The following nationally televised games are filled with drama and intriguing battles all over the field, so missing a second of any of them would be foolish.

Thursday Night Football

New York Giants at Carolina Panthers

While the defending Super Bowl champions should have come into this season riding the momentum of their world title, the New York Giants lost their first game against their division rival, the Dallas Cowboys.

After almost choking away a victory to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2, the Giants now face off with the always-dangerous Carolina Panthers.

Carolina also lost its first game in heartbreaking fashion, but came back in Week 2 with a strong mindset and overcame the talented New Orleans Saints. They will need to bring the same focus and intense play Thursday night if they want to beat New York.

Eli Manning and the Giants offense will put up their points, but the team will need its defense to be the biggest star on Thursday if it wants to stop Cam Newton through the air and on the ground.

This game will be a slugfest that features two of the sport's heavyweights battling it out for the win. While the Giants will ultimately walk away with the victory, Carolina will prove they deserve to be in the playoff conversation as long as Newton is under center.

Prediction: Giants 24, Panthers 21

Sunday’s Best

New England Patriots at Baltimore Ravens

While there are tons of great matchups this Sunday, the biggest storyline is the matchup between two AFC powerhouses with the Baltimore Ravens and the New England Patriots in M&T Bank Stadium.

Baltimore may have the home-field advantage on paper, but both teams enter this game with a huge chip on their shoulder.

New England is coming off a stunning loss to the Arizona Cardinals and an injury to their star tight end Aaron Hernandez, while the Ravens lost a heartbreaker to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Both teams want vengeance, but only one can walk away victorious; that means we should be in for a hard-fought battle on Sunday Night Football.

As bad as the Patriots looked against Arizona, that will be the wake-up call the team needed and the Ravens will not be able to stop Tom Brady and the New England offense from imposing their will.

Baltimore will keep it close, but it will be the Patriots that walk away victorious.

Prediction: Patriots 30, Ravens 27

Monday Night Football

Green Bay Packers at Seattle Seahawks

Monday Night Football is one of the best parts of every NFL fan's work week, but this matchup is one of the best we could ask for.

With the Green Bay Packers heading on the road to play the Seahawks, they will not just be playing 11 men; Seattle has 12 in CenturyLink Field. The Seahawks’ stadium is the loudest in the NFL and will only be louder now that they know they’re on the national stage of MNF.

Just like Thursday night’s matchup, these teams lost in Week 1, but bounced back with convincing wins in Week 2 against playoff-caliber teams.

Each team’s division will be tough to win, so these teams need a victory here desperately.

As good as Seattle has been on both sides of the ball so far in 2012, the Packers are starting to round into shape. Led by Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay will stun the Seahawks in their own building and silence the 12th man on national television.

Prediction: Packers 27, Seahawks 17
