Week 3 Fantasy Football Rankings: Where Do Drew Brees and RG3 Rank Among QBs?

Chris TrapassoJun 7, 2018

Fantasy owners don't care that the New Orleans Saints are 0-2, but four interceptions through two contests for Drew Brees is definitely fresh in their minds.

With Brees, fantasy owners feel the need to nitpick.

A 300-yard day with two scores and two interceptions simply isn't good enough after he set the bar exceptionally high in 2011.

As for Robert Griffin III, his Washington Redskins are 1-1, and he's flashed his tremendous upside on many occasions. He has accounted for 650 total yards and five touchdowns in two games.

Is he close to becoming a legitimate QB No. 1 in every fantasy league?

Well, all we can do is project one week at a time, so let's get into it.

Where do Brees and Griffin III rank among fantasy quarterbacks in Week 3?

Drew Brees

Brees hosts a Kansas City Chiefs team that has been abysmal in their first two outings. In Week 1, Matt Ryan exploited a beleaguered secondary to the tune of 299 yards and three touchdowns through the air. Last week, Ryan Fitzpatrick didn't torch KC, but he completed a mere 10 passes for 178 yards and two scores en route to a 120.1 QB rating.

Brees should flourish, right?

We thought he would against the Redskins at home in Week 1 and had the same sentiment heading into a road test with the Carolina Panthers.

Though he eclipsed the 300-yard mark in both contests, he simply wasn't as sharp as he's been over the last three seasons with the Saints.

However, this should be game in which Brees finally doesn't even slightly disappoint his fantasy owners. Kansas City's defense has holes and has shown a tendency to allow major YAC.

Robert Griffin III

Griffin III makes his highly anticipated home debut against the Cincinnati Bengals this week. He regressed against the Rams, throwing for 206 yards and tossing his first interception.

What's more important, especially from a fantasy perspective, is Griffin III's prowess as a runner and how much the Redskins have been willing to use his legs through two games.

He ran it nine times for 42 yards in Week 1, and carried the ball 11 times for 82 yards with two scores against St. Louis.

Many of his rushes have been by design.

The Bengals' defense is solid, but they are fresh off a game in which they allowed fellow rookie Brandon Weeden to throw for 322 yards and two touchdown passes.

Without Adam Carriker and Brian Orakpo on the defensive line, Cincinnati should have a much easier time moving the football, which could lead to the Redskins allowing a great deal of points.

Think RG3 could be forced into more passing situations in another shootout?

I do.

The competition

Tom Brady and the Aaron Hernandez-less Patriots are up against a Baltimore Ravens defense that could drive New England's offensive line nuts.

Cam Newton could have a shootout on his hands against Eli Manning and a weak New York Giants secondary at home. Aaron Rodgers doesn't exactly have the most favorable matchups, playing the Seahawks in Seattle.

Matthew Stafford and Tony Romo have juicy matchups against the Tennessee Titans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, respectively.

Final Rankings

1. Cam Newton

2. Drew Brees

3. Tony Romo

4. Eli Manning

5. Aaron Rodgers

6. Robert Griffin III

7. Matthew Stafford

8. Matt Ryan

10. Ben Roethlisberger
