Transfer Losses That Hurt the Most for Inter Milan Fans

Mikhail TurnerJun 7, 2018

The summer transfer window is gone, but Inter Milan fans are likely to be a little disappointed with their club's activity this summer.

Inter's ability to hold on to the likes of Wesley Sneijder was definitely a positive, but there are some players the fans would have liked to stay on.

While players like Alvaro Pereira and Rodrigo Palacio were brought in, they were probably not the preferred option for many Inter fans in terms of transfers brought in.

Here are some players Inter fans would have loved to see stay and others they would've liked to join the club.

Nigel De Jong

The fact that Nigel De Jong is wearing an AC Milan jersey most annoy the majority of Inter Milan fans.

Considering he could have been signed relatively cheaply due to only having one year remaining on his contract with Manchester City, its a wonder that Inter Milan did not sign him.

Signing De Jong would have brought some great class and experience to the Inter Milan midfield and would have brought a player who was in his prime as well.

Lucas Moura

Inter Milan was linked to a move for Brazilian starlet Lucas in the last few transfer windows (via Talksport.com).

When it came down to it the Milan club was beaten by PSG for his signature (via the DailyMail).

Lucas Moura could have been the high-profile signing to really get Inter fans excited about the new season.

This is not a knock against any of the club's signings, considering they have gotten two wins out of three to start the Serie A season, but Lucas would have provided more quality than Inter's other signings.

He would have been a great buy for the present and the future and would have made the club much stronger this season.

Luc Castaignos

Inter Milan signing Dutch youngster Luc Castaignos was one of the weirder pieces of business last summer. For Inter Milan to sign a player with Castaignos' age and potential was not a bad thing, but something which certainly wasn't the norm.

What was even weirder was how Castaignos was treated during his time at the club. The former Feyenoord man made only eight appearances for the club last season (via ESPN Soccernet).

Castaignos was sold to FC Twente and has gotten off to a decent start at the club with two goals in seven games (via ESPN Soccernet).

With the lack of youth products within the squad, especially on the forward line, Inter fans wonder why exactly a young player like Castaignos was allowed to leave. At the very least he could have been sent on-loan or given one more season to prove himself.

Andrea Poli

Andrea Poli is another youngster that Inter was unable to hold on to this summer. Inter Milan signed Poli on-loan last year and he made 19 appearances for the club (via SkySports).

Inter was unable to negotiate a final transfer for the player this summer and he returned to his parent club Sampdoria (h/t Football-Italia).

Inter could yet try to recapture the youngster, but other clubs like Napoli were interested in him this summer (via Goal.com).
