New England Patriots (-13.5) over Arizona Cardinals
The Patriots might be the most complete team in football, but against the Cardinals, there might not be any line big enough.
Arizona will start Kevin Kolb at quarterback this week after an ankle injury knocked John Skelton out of last week's game. While Kolb had an impressive drive to lead the comeback win against the Seahawks, he is not consistent enough to threaten New England in this game.
Kolb had a 2-6 record with the Cardinals last season (excluding a Week 14 game in which he threw one pass)—an embarrassing mark for a team that finished with an 8-8 record.
In each of those losses, the quarterback threw at least one interception.
New England's defense may have its faults, but it is also opportunistic. The unit tied for second in the NFL last season with 23 interceptions and forced two turnovers in the Patriots' Week 1 win over the Tennessee Titans.
Plus, the Cardinals will have a difficult time guarding Wes Welker, Brandon Lloyd, Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez and Stevan Ridley on offense.
This game should be a blowout by well more than two touchdowns.
Baltimore Ravens (+2.5) over Philadelphia Eagles
The Ravens put on an impressive display on Monday Night Football when they throttled the Cincinnati Bengals 44-13. Each unit was clicking, especially in the second half, and Baltimore sent a message to the rest of the league that they are a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
Meanwhile, Philadelphia needed a late touchdown to defeat the hapless Cleveland Browns, who had minimal contributions from starting rookies Brandon Weeden and Trent Richardson.
Quarterback Michael Vick threw four interceptions, and the team did little to instill confidence in the rest of the season.
Baltimore should be able to put plenty of pressure on Vick and force him into mistakes that can turn into points on the other side of the football.
The Ravens are capable of a letdown game on the road, however, as they proved that in 2011 with losses to the Tennessee Titans and the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, this team has learned from its mistakes and should be able to take the short trip up I-95 and leave victorious.
Houston Texas (-7) over Jacksonville Jaguars
When healthy, the Texans are one of the most talented teams in football. They proved that last season when they were able to win a playoff game with rookie T.J. Yates as the starting quarterback.
Fortunately, Pro Bowl quarterback Matt Schaub is back to his old form and throwing touchdown passes to Andre Johnson just like old times. Add running back Arian Foster into the mix, and this is an offense that will be tough for anyone to stop.
This will especially be true for the Jaguars, who could not defeat the Minnesota Vikings in overtime last week. The Vikings were near the bottom of the league in passing last season, but Christian Ponder was able to throw for 270 yards against Jacksonville's defense.
In addition, quarterback Blaine Gabbert should struggle against a defense that forced Ryan Tannehill to have a QBR of 3.1 (on a scale of 1-100).
The game is in Jacksonville, but the Jaguars do not have enough of a home-field advantage to make that matter. Houston should be able to take care of business on the road and win handily.
