Jermichael Finley and the 3 Biggest Liabilities in the NFL

Chris TrapassoJun 7, 2018

Jermichael Finley caught four passes for 26 yards against the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers won, but his drop and fumble will be remembered by Packers fans as the continuance of a disturbing trend for the undeniably talented tight end.

Is the 6'5'', 250-pound physical freak becoming a liability in Aaron Rodgers' offense?

Don't worry, Green Bay, you aren't the only city dealing with a player who's a hindrance on his respective football team.

Ryan Fitzpatrick

To most, Chan Gailey is a keen offensive mind.

Unfortunately he's better known as a guy who simply hasn't had the offensive talent, most notably at quarterback, to field a consistently successful offensive attack.

While the Buffalo Bills have experienced moments of inspired play from Ryan Fitzpatrick, most of the time he's held back a team that's close to contention.

His weak arm, relative inaccuracy and tendency to force throws often takes Buffalo out of games before they even have a chance to compete.

The defense has been porous, and was especially bad in the Week 1 loss to the New York Jets, but even the most diehard Bills fan will tell you—Fitzpatrick is the biggest liability on the team.

The 2012 campaign hinges on his play.

J'Marcus Webb

Did you watch last night's game?

If you're still stuck with Time Warner Cable and weren't able to watch, be glad. Especially if you were expecting a high-scoring affair.

Jay Cutler was sacked seven times with Clay Matthews accumulating 3.5 by himself.

Chicago Bears' left tackle J'Marcus Webb was often Matthews' victim en route to Cutler. Matthews beat him with bull rushes, speed rushes and counter moves—it didn't matter.

While Cutler deserves some of the blame, Webb's performance rarely allowed the Bears quarterback ample time to deliver the ball downfield from the pocket.

If Webb's lackluster play continues, the NFC North may not be as deep as we expected.

Tim Tebow

Tim Tebow isn't a liability in the conventional sense, but hear me out.

He's far from a viable starting quarterback, capable of completing over 55 percent of his passes and winning from the pocket.

However, he brings a ridiculous amount of media attention which potentially yields quite the locker room distraction from a backup.

The media can't stop talking and writing about him, and the fans love him. Therefore, coaches are essentially forced to play him in some capacity.

He may ultimately be productive for the Jets, but even in a thrashing of the Bills, Tebow's on-field presence was a total waste.

What to do with Jermichael Finley?

No, his starting job isn't in jeopardy, but can the Packers rely on him in their high-powered offense in 2012?

His talent is immense, but his unreliable hands are undoubtedly a problem as the team looks to build on their big win against the Bears in Week 2.

Finley isn't a major liability, and just about every other team in the NFL would love to have him on their roster.

It's just that in the Packers' ultra-efficient offense, they cannot afford to have a super-skilled pass-catcher who drops passes and fumbles the football.
