Week 2 Pickups: Opening Week Studs That Will Develop into Consistent Stars

Patrick ClarkeJun 4, 2018

There were a number of unknown fantasy football gems popping up around the NFL landscape in Week 1 of the 2012 regular season.

From DC to Dallas, rookies and veterans alike wowed fans with breakout performances that hardly anyone saw coming.

Those fantasy underdogs are now worthy pickups as Week 2 quickly approaches.

Here, we analyze some opening-week studs destined to become consistent fantasy stars this fall.

Kevin Ogletree

The Dallas Cowboys wide receiver came out of nowhere to have the fifth-best receiving day of any NFL wideout in opening week.

Ogletree caught eight balls from Tony Romo, totaling 114 yards and two touchdowns. Only Julio Jones and Stephen Hill caught as many touchdowns in Week 1.

With Miles Austin getting most of the opposing secondary's attention this season, there's no reason why Ogletree won't benefit all year long.

That's not to say that he will be catching multiple touchdowns every week, but he'll be a consistent fantasy star nonetheless.

C.J. Spiller

Buffalo Bills running back C.J. Spiller turned into a machine against the New York Jets, rushing for 169 yards and a touchdown on just 14 carries.

With Fred Jackson out for the next few weeks (via Stephania Bell of ESPN) with an injured knee, Spiller should see a bulk of the carries in Buffalo, resulting in some huge fantasy performances.

Spiller is averaging a tad over 12 yards per carry after one game this season and was one of only five RBs to surpass 100 yards rushing in Week 1.

He's a stud, and he's one poised to sustain in 2012.

Robert Griffin III

The Redskins' rookie quarterback had the highest passer rating of any signal-caller in the NFL in Week 1. Griffin's 139.9 rating was made possible by his 73.1 completion percentage, 320 yards passing and two touchdowns.

The No. 2 overall pick in last spring's NFL draft also rushed for 42 yards against the New Orleans Saints' defense.

It's hard to be a RG3 doubter after that performance. The reigning Heisman Trophy winner looked calm and poised in the pocket and has tons of lucky fantasy owners thrilled with their investment.

As long as he stays healthy, Griffin will follow in Cam Newton's footsteps and become a consistent fantasy superstar.
