Inter Milan: 5 Reasons 2012-13 Could See Their Return to the Top of Serie A
Inter Milan had one of the most frustrating and disappointing seasons in many years in 2011-12.
A seventh place finish was not the type of year that the club thought would be the end result.
Having been only two season's removed from a treble that include a UEFA Champions League title and a domestic double of the Italian Tim Cup and the Scudetto, the club truly expected more.
This year the side will be hopeful of making a run back to the top of the league.
New additions to the club, key departures from close rivals AC Milan and manager strife at current Champions Juventus have the Nerazzurri set for a surprise attempt at a top spot run.
With a hopeful heart for the club, here are five reasons that could see the club return to glory.
Wesley Sneijder
1 of 5The full commitment of Dutch international midfielder Wesley Sneijder was a must for Inter Milan to begin their fight back to the top of the Serie A.
According to ESPN, the Holland maestro is happy to remain at the San Siro, for now, and pull the strings behind Diego Milito and Antonio Cassano.
Work out the Formula in the Opening Matches
2 of 5Inter started their Serie A campaign with a solid 3-0 victory over newly promoted Pescara. However, a round two thumping from AS Roma was not what the Milanese club had envisioned.
Nevertheless, if the club can iron out the problems early on then they stand a much better chance of withstanding the full 38 match schedule for a positive result.
Out with the Old
3 of 5Inter Milan have brought fresh faces into their squad and moved on several of their aging players in hopes of reinvigorating the side.
The recent arrivals of Alvaro Peirera, Antonio Cassano and Samir Handanovic were all positive moves to see the club not miss a beat––adding a new lust for glory to the side in the process.
Philippe Coutinho
4 of 520-year-old midfielder Philippe Coutinho could yet be the catalyst of major change in the Inter Milan first team.
The player has slotted in seamlessly, scoring twice in four matches so far this season––this should give the young Brazilian's confidence a massive boost.
He is also awarded much freedom with the support of Wesley Sneijder alongside of him and this creates a rich environment for the youngster to flourish as a goal scorer and creator from the middle third.
Conte, Ibra and Silva
5 of 5Inter Milan also have the assistance of several key happenings this summer in their favor.
City rivals AC sold their two most important players in defender Thiago Silva and striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, whilst current champions Juventus have lost their manager for 10 months.
Although there may not be a huge affect at the moment, the potential for the loss of an influential manager to eventually see a club have a slump and never recover is massive.
As well as loosing a manager, loosing the players you rely on for goals and as the rock in the heart of defense is also a hard thing to deal with.
If Inter Milan plays their cards right they could come bag to pull off a massive coup and fight their way to a Scudetto.
