San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates sustained a rib injury on Monday night against the Oakland Raiders, according to the Chargers' official Twitter account.
The Chargers tweeted:
"TE Antonio Gates is questionable to return with a rib injury.

Gates has proven to be one of the best tight ends in the league throughout the years, but he has suffered his fair share of injuries. He hasn't played 16 games since the 2010 season.
Last season, the eight-time Pro Bowler caught 64 balls for 778 yards and seven touchdowns in 13 games. Philip Rivers and the Chargers racked up 289 passing yards per game and 25.4 points per game in the process.
San Diego is trying to bounce back from an 8-8 campaign that saw it miss the playoffs last season. With Peyton Manning manning the controls for the Denver Broncos now, it's imperative for the Chargers to get off to a quick start.
Keep it here as Bleacher Report updates the status of Gates moving forward.
