WWE Raw Results: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Cody GuinnSep 11, 2012

In what was one of the most roller coaster nights in wrestling history, Monday Night Raw ended on a high note while the rest of the show went down in flames for different reasons.

While many Night of Champion matches and storylines were made on the NOC go-home show, the show was devastated by the on-air collapse of commentator Jerry "The King" Lawler.

All of us here at Bleacher Report send our best wishes to Lawler as well as to his friends and family.

Still yet, the show went on which leads to tonight's edition of the Monday Night Raw good, bad, and ugly for September 10th.

The Good

1 of 3

To start off the show, Bret "Hit Man" Hart made his entrance to a standing ovation which was well deserved and would put a huge smile on any wrestling fans' face.

CM Punk would come out and interrupt Hart and would work a perfectly executed heel promo. Punk gained an excellent amount of heat and even garnished an old school, Attitude Era-style "asshole" chant from the WWE Universe.

While the diva's match was just alright and Eve's role is getting ugly, it was great to see Beth Phoenix back in action.

So, it's obvious that the WWE RawActive thing is not really going by our votes, but they played a nice trick by showing Jerry Lawler in his wrestling gear at ringside then announcing Randy Orton had won the vote. Well played, WWE.

Just hearing CM Punk say, "I'm a Paul Heyman guy." was kind of the highlight of the first half of Raw.

I was very upset last week when Daniel Bryan and Kane didn't form a tag team, but WWE's creative must of seen my article and realized that was a terrific idea. Now, all of a sudden, Kane and Daniel Bryan are the new number one contenders for the Tag Team Championship.

It's no secret most the WWE's true talent isn't appearing on Raw, but hey, it was nice to see a little of Tyson Kidd tonight!

Following the tragic incident with Jerry Lawler, Rey Mysterio and Cody Rhodes had a match with both television silence and no commentators, and arena silence as well as you could tell the crowd was stunned from what had just occurred.

The match was alright, but the interference by The Miz made it seem we were setting up for a Miz-Mysterio rematch at Night of Champions until Cody Rhodes attacked The Miz! A wonderful twist on an otherwise dull championship match at Night of Champions!

I'll give credit where credit is due. Tonight, John Cena cut the promo of his career and nearly equaled the great, "Pipebomb" CM Punk delivered last year.

When you take into account the circumstances: Night of Champions not being hyped at all, Punk-Cena rivalry getting stale, Montreal booing both men, plus both Cena's and Punk's hearts heavy for Jerry Lawler, Cena's promo might have been one of the best in WWE history.

Cena proclaimed that Punk was a "phony" and that his actions didn't "truly define a champion." Furthermore, Cena would speak in French which would bring on a huge pop from the crowd. When Punk would poke fun at Cena for doing so, Cena snapped calling Punk an, "arrogant son-of-a-(beep)" and would cap of his amazing promo by stating to Punk, "You say you're going to win, but I'm going to kick your ass."

The Bad

2 of 3

The first match of the night was basically a waste match that featured Intercontinental Champion Miz and United States Champion Antonio Cesaro against the Tag Team Champions R-Truth and Kofi Kingston. The match was okay, but on the final show before Night of Champions, I would have liked to seen something different.

Ryback squash match...yawn.

The CM Punk versus Randy Orton matchup was a bit of a letdown basically because we've seen the two men feud before and see how good of a match they can put on. Neither guy had their best in-ring stuff tonight.

The impromptu tag team match between Orton and Jerry Lawler versus Punk and Dolph Ziggler was basically just set-up so we could see Punk have a conversation outside the ring with Paul Heyman.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Punk-Heyman thing, but why ruin a match with it? The camera was on them the whole time and all you could see was Orton hit an RKO on Ziggler at the end.

Love the team of Kane and Daniel Bryan, but it stinks the WWE had to screw the Prime Time Players over AGAIN to get Kane and Bryan on the Pay Per View.

In what was basically a squash match, Sheamus defeated David Otunga. Didn't we see this match on Smackdown?

The Ugly

Reports soon surfaced following Kaitlyn's battle royal win to become No. 1 contender for the Diva's Championship that the finish was botched and Eve was suppose to win.

Well, the WWE isn't doing any favors by injecting her into this odd role unless they plan of having a triple threat match for the Diva's Championship at Night of Champions.

When Dolph Ziggler attacked Orton then Jerry Lawler made the save, the WWE took a very, as said on Twitter, TNA-ish commercial break without any warning whatsoever. Looked bad I thought.

Listen, the WWE struck gold with the anger management skits featuring Kane and Daniel Bryan, but that doesn't mean the WWE needs more weekly skits.

The Sheamus-David Otunga angle was just terrible. Sheamus is a talented wrestler and I know the WWE wants to get his personality and mic skills over more, but lets face it, he just doesn't have that going for him right now. Neither does David Otunga--as a matter of fact--he doesn't have the in-ring ability to be on television either.

Is Alberto Del Rio ever going to get entertaining? His in-ring skills are good, but it's not enough for him to keep getting put in World Championship situations.

A.J. Lee was very odd tonight. From her segment with Punk, the Prime Time Players, and when she was about to discipline Sheamus for using the banned Brogue Kick, she was just off. I'm guessing this is part of a storyline that'll cost her a job within the next few weeks.
