Bleacher Report's Week 1 Highlight Tape
An 88-yard touchdown pass to start Robert Griffin III's Washington Redskins career, Jay Cutler finding a streaking Alshon Jeffery for a 42-yard score, and Calvin Johnson imposing his will on unfortunate defensive backs were just some of the reminders why we're glad the 2012 NFL season has begun.
Week 1 has delivered in terms of sheer excitement with a host of amazing big plays, and Bleacher Report has the best of the best right here.
Jay Cutler's Bomb to Alshon Jeffery
1 of 9Now that is why the Chicago Bears drafted Alshon Jeffery in the second round of this year's draft. He displayed his deceptive straight-line speed on a toss from Jay Cutler, beating the Colts secondary on this 42-yard score.
The touchdown all but ended any of Indianapolis' comeback hopes, making the score 41-21 in the fourth quarter.
With Marshall and Jeffery, the Monsters of the Midway have two physically intimidating receivers out wide.
Andrew Luck's First NFL Touchdown Pass
2 of 9Andrew Luck's first touchdown toss wasn't of the spectacular variety, but it's noteworthy nonetheless. Actually, the velocity and placement of the pass were just about perfect.
He found Donnie Avery on a six-yard slant with his team down 20 points in the fourth. Many more to come for Mr. Luck.
Cecil Shorts' Miraculous Touchdown Catch in Crunch Time
3 of 9Blaine Gabbert found Cecil Shorts down the sideline on a 39-yard quasi-Hail Mary score with 20 seconds remaining to give the Jacksonville Jaguars the lead.
Shorts did an incredible job adjusting to the ball in the air and falling into the end zone.
Unfortunately for Jacksonville, the Vikings went on to tie the game on the last play of regulation and won on a field goal in overtime.
Marcus Thigpen's 72-Yard Punt Return Touchdown for the Dolphins
4 of 9The Miami Dolphins were throttled by the Houston Texans 30-10, but the return touchdown by rookie running back Marcus Thigpen was a bright spot for Joe Philbin's club.
Thigpen demonstrated an impressive burst as he crossed midfield, and then—you guessed it—he outran the punter.
Matthew Stafford Airing It out to Calvin Johnson
5 of 9Calvin Johnson is, just, wow.
On this play, Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford launched a 51-yard bomb essentially up for grabs to Megatron.
Not surprisingly, the league's preeminent wideout came down with the football while tightly covered, and even had his helmet pop off in the process.
Get used to more of that, if you weren't already.
Jimmy Graham's Sick Touchdown Catch in Double Coverage
6 of 9New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees zipped a pass 20 yards into the end zone to his skilled tight end when he wasn't open whatsoever.
That's when Graham came in.
He simply out-jumped both Redskins defenders and snatched the ball in his huge mitts for the score.
What a talent.
Robert Griffin III's First Touchdown Pass
7 of 9Just like he was still at Baylor.
Robert Griffin III stayed in the pocket and delivered a strike over the middle to Pierre Garcon. The speedy wideout took it 88 yards to the house, a play that sparked the Washington Redskins' stunning upset of the New Orleans Saints.
Great throw and even better YAC from the former Indianapolis Colt.
Randall Cobb's Punt Return TD
8 of 9The Green Bay Packers were down 23-7 in the fourth quarter and were in desperate need of a spark.
Yeah, the Packers needed a spark.
Second-year playmaker Randall Cobb delivered on a punt return in which he bolted 75-yards down the sideline for a score.
There was a controversial block-in-the-back penalty that was initially called then taken back, allowing the touchdown to stand.
What do you think?
David Akers' Record-Tying Field Goal
9 of 9It doesn't get better than a 63-yard field goal that bounces off the cross bar, especially when David Akers is the kicker.
This boot came at the end of the first half and gave the 49ers a 16-7 lead.
Akers reacted as if the kick won the Super Bowl, and frankly, you can't blame him.
Awesome video.
