BMW Championship 2012: Day 4 Leaderboard Analysis, Highlights and More

Rob GoldbergJun 7, 2018

Rory McIlroy continued his hot streak by winning the BMW Championship, the final tournament before the Tour Championship.

The 23-year-old golfer shot a final round of 67 to go to 20-under for the tournament. He finished in the 60s in each of the four rounds and has not shot over 70 in the last eight rounds. With the win, McIlory clinches the No. 1 spot in next week's final tournament to win the FedEx Cup.

After two straight wins, plus a victory at the PGA Championship last month, there is no one playing better than the youngster from Northern Ireland. In the tournament, he hit 70.8 percent of greens in regulation and was very accurate off the tee. If he continues to play this way, it will take a superhuman effort to beat him in Atlanta.

Here is McIlroy finishing off his championship on the 18th hole.

Phil Mickelson hurt himself with a bogey on 17, but a 64 on Saturday helped him finish tied for second with Lee Westwood. This earns him 1,250 FedEx Cup points to put him in fourth for the season.

This will be key as Lefty enters the Tour championship. Only the top five spots can guarantee a FedEx Cup victory with a win in next week's tournament, and Mickelson was on the outside looking in entering the week. These points move him up five spots to keep the leaderboard filled with golf's most famous stars.

The veteran earned a share of the lead with this birdie put on the ninth hole.

Tiger Woods had a solid fourth-place finish after shooting a 33 on the back-nine with no bogeys and three birdies. He has been very consistent with back-to-back top-five finishes, and he enters the final tournament No. 2 in the FedEx standings.

Here is his birdie on 14, helped mostly by an impressive second shot that landed 13 feet from the hole.
