TNA: Impact! Wrestling Suffers Another Slip in Viewership
TNA Impact! may be the best show in professional wrestling today. The only issue with Impact! Wrestling is gaining momentum in growing its viewership.
Despite putting forth another quality show, Impact! Wrestling saw its viewership tank on Thursday night (via TV By the Numbers).
On Thursday night, Impact! Wrestling had just 1.21 million viewers and garnered a 0.4 rating share in Adults 18-49. On Cable Television's Top 50 list, Impact! Wrestling slipped near toward the bottom.
Impact! Wrestling squared off with tough television competition on Thursday night. The 2012 Video Music Awards on MTV was cable television's top show. Also on Thursday night was the Democratic National Convention coverage.
Should TNA Move out of Its Thursday Night Time Slot?
The big question that TNA officials may be asking themselves is if the company should move out of its Thursday night time slot? Although it would mean yet another time-slot change for viewers to adapt to, TNA could see better results. Despite having a very solid product, Impact! Wrestling has been plagued with tough television competition on Thursday night. With NFL games arriving on Thursday nights, along with television's fall lineup launch, this could mean a tough stretch is ahead for Impact! Wrestling.
It has to be frustrating for TNA officials to see a much-improved product reach a limited amount of fans. TNA should seriously consider making a time-slot switch to a slower night on television if this rating pattern continues. However, TNA needs to remain focused first on its Bound for Glory pay-per-view before worrying about the show's ratings slide.
Will Viewership Rise Heading into Bound for Glory?
In the past, TNA has enjoyed some ratings success when its biggest pay-per-view, Bound For Glory, arrives. With No Surrender approaching this Sunday, TNA needs to have a good pay-per-view showing in order to attract fans into watching their product heading into Bound for Glory. If the ratings will spike higher, the time is approaching for TNA to gain some momentum.
