Santonio Holmes Says Mark Sanchez Was Rattled by Tim Tebow Acquisition

Rob GoldbergJun 7, 2018

Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow must work together for the New York Jets to have a successful season, but it seems that there were problems with this relationship from day one.

Santonio Holmes told the media Wednesday that Sanchez was initially "floored" by the acquisition of Tebow, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini. The receiver went on to say, "It was a focus that kind of rattled him a little."

Even recently, Sanchez could not completely hold his emotions in check when referring to his primary competition for his starting job. When asked about owner Woody Johnson's glowing comment about Tebow, Newsday reports that the fourth-year quarterback replied, "Selling seats, man. Selling seats."

Although this was said in jest, there is possibly some truth to the statement. Few people would appreciate their boss acquiring another person to take over their job. Sanchez might simply be letting loose some steam about his situation.

This situation is the latest for what has been a dysfunctional organization over the past year. When the team closed out the regular season with three straight losses to finish a disappointing 8-8, fireworks started in public and behind closed doors.

The offseason included talk of poor chemistry in the locker room by "selfish individuals," players having meltdowns in workouts and finally, fights in training camp (all via ESPN).

New York has enough issues to worry about on the field for the team to have a successful season. The added distractions in the news will not help its chances.

If the Jets want to get back to the AFC Championship Game and beyond, they will need to find a way to all get along.
