NBA 2K13: Expanding My Player to My Career Gives Mode Depth

Brian MaziqueJun 4, 2018

The most recent screenshots released from NBA 2K13 shed some light on the My Career mode. If you're used to calling it My Player, it seems you may have to expand your way of thinking about the mode.

The My Player experience is one of the most popular and addictive aspects of the NBA 2K series, but judging by the subtle name change and the screens that Ronnie Singh (AKA Ronnie 2K) released, the mode is going to be much bigger.

It started with the screenshot below:

You can see Ronnie's player ratings and his Signature Skills. I broke these down in a previous article.

In the next screenshot, Ronnie's player stats from the Rookie Showcase are shown. He shakes hands with David Stern at the NBA Draft and rocks a suit straight out of Black Dynamite.

It is still unclear as to how you attain your draft status, or that hideous suit, but is it wrong that I'm interested in both?

Your player will also have the ability to request a sit-down meeting with the general manager for your franchise. You can request trades, offer advice on personnel moves, and more. You can basically be the guy most people think Kobe Bryant is.

Here is a screenshot of Ronnie getting his Mamba on with the GM:

2K also released this image of the style closet. It features Ronnie's player in three different situations and attires. This could be attached to several different changes and enhancements in the mode.

There was already a currency system and a rewards/unlockable structure in the game. This appears to expand on that, and it works to give your player a more specific identity.

I love the concept as it moves gamers closer to the fun aspects of being a professional basketball player. The release is less than a month away, so I'd expect to see content flowing on a steady basis up until October 2.

This has already been a strong year for sports video games, and NBA 2K13 looks like it will keep the trend going.
