Fantasy Football Week 1: Predicting Top Performer at Each Position

Alex KayJun 6, 2018

Getting the best players in fantasy football is a lot of work. First you have to identify who you think will have a great season and which teams have the best matchups; and then you have to get lucky at the draft, on the waiver wire or via trade to land them.

The biggest crime is not starting these superstar studs, especially when they have a favorable matchup and have a chance to put up the most points at the position for that week.

Let’s take a look at which players should be the top scorers in Week 1.

QB – Drew Brees

Brees is practically the head coach of the New Orleans Saints and has a juicy matchup against the Washington Redskins in Week 1.

With such an inexperienced QB in Robert Griffin III on the other side of the field, it’s likely that Brees will have the ball in his hand for a good majority of the contest and make the most of it with his pinpoint throws down field for major yards and a few scores.

If you have Brees, there is absolutely no excuse not to start him any week, but he should fare particularly well to open the year up.

RB – Arian Foster

Foster has consistently been one of the best running backs in football the past two seasons and should start his third campaign off strong.

His team has an easy matchup against the Miami Dolphins, who have a ton of question marks on defense and a rookie QB in Ryan Tannehill.

He’s completely healthy and looked like a superstar in preseason. Expect the Houston Texans RB to dominate the Phins defense.

WR – Julio Jones

The Atlanta Falcons young WR should have a breakout year in 2012 He’s got a lot of fantasy expectations on his shoulders, but shouldn't have a problem living up to them.

With Matt Ryan throwing the rock and Roddy White across from him against a depleted Kansas City Chiefs secondary, Jones could have the best day of any WR in the league.

He’s a trendy pick to have a great season, but Jones will prove that he was worth the fuss in Week 1.

TE – Rob Gronkowski

Gronk is back!

He’s fully healthy and ready to have another insane season that will see a lot of footballs nearly spiked through the ground following a touchdown.

The Tennessee Titans should have a good defense this year, but it’s going to be tough for them to divide their attention across all of the weapons on the New England Patriots offense has to offer.

Expect Gronk to use his athleticism and height to muscle his way to at least a score and a bunch of yards.
