US Open Tennis 2012 TV Schedule: Must-See Matches on Day 10
The 2012 U.S. Open has reached the quarterfinal stage, and Day 10 at Flushing Meadows will feature several exciting matches.
Coverage will start on ESPN2 at 12 p.m. ET and last until 11 p.m. ET. The full TV schedule for the tournament can be found at USOpen.org.
With 11 straight hours of the best tennis players in the world, even the most devoted fans can get their fill.
For those who will be picking and choosing when to watch, here are the matches that must not be missed.
(1) Roger Federer vs. (6) Tomas Berdych
Roger Federer received a few extra days off after winning his fourth-round match against Mardy Fish via a walkover.
Against Tomas Berdych, Federer will show whether the rest has benefited him. He has won 11 of his 15 matches against Berdych, and if the Swiss is sharp from the start, this could be a quick match.
However, Wimbledon in 2010 was the last time these two players met in the quarterfinal round at a major, and Berdych pulled off an upset. The talented Czech certainly has the potential to punish Federer if he makes too many mistakes.
The player who emerges victorious will face the winner of the quarterfinal match between Andy Murray and Marin Cilic.
(3) Andy Murray vs. (12) Marin Cilic
Andy Murray has continued his fine form this summer thus far at Flushing Meadows, and he looks destined to meet Federer in the semifinals.
The Scot quickly dispatched his first two opponents before taking his time to get past an inspired Feliciano Lopez. His fourth-round match was against 15th-seeded Milos Raonic, and Murray easily moved past the talented Canadian.
Cililc took care of Martin Klizan in straight sets in his previous match, but needed all five sets to defeat his first two opponents—both of whom were unseeded—and four sets to beat Kei Nishikori.
Murray should have little problem with Cilic, and he has beat him six of the seven times the two have competed against one another. The spectators will get their wish as Federer and Murray meet in the semis.
(12) Ana Ivanovic vs. (4) Serena Williams
Serena Williams looks set to continue her climb back toward the top of the WTA rankings, and she appears to be a serious threat to win her second consecutive major.
Williams has not dropped a set during her four matches at Flushing Meadows, and she has recorded a double bagel to win her last outing against Andrea Hlavackova. But the competition will start to get more difficult.
Ana Ivanovic will be her first seeded opponent. However, Williams has played Ivanovic three times in her career—twice at past U.S. Opens—and defeated the Serbian in straight sets in each match.
Expect Williams’ incredible form to continue, as she looks unbeatable thus far in New York.
