WWE: Paul Heyman and CM Punk Just Gave WWE Executives a Reality Check

Justin LaBarJun 7, 2018

It's a good thing Vince McMahon doesn't use Twitter―otherwise he would have millions of people telling him how Paul Heyman's five seconds of television time was the best five seconds of Raw.

The extra few seconds Heyman waits before moving the car forward which ensures the moment isn't rushed and the camera gets the best shot. A veteran move of someone who has worked in television a long time. He's been on the other side of the camera and pen. Heyman knows what you want to capture.

Other guys when being the big reveal would have had a tough guy smirk or demonic bad guy laugh. Paul Heyman goes with the sarcastic, "wow look at that" look. It all fits in the moment.

The best thing about Heyman being involved is he's not going to let it suck.

WWE needs him more than he needs WWE. Most can't say this. WWE knows how good he is. They know how much buzz he creates. They know he can fill the space of promoting Brock Lesnar and whenever his next appearance is.

If Heyman's aligned with CM Punk, we'll see him regularly which is exciting. Not only for the potential plot to watch develop but the personal accomplishment for the two.

CM Punk is a Paul Heyman guy. Whether it was spoken or not to each other, I don't doubt Punk and Heyman had that moment they smiled and laughed about how things have worked out.

They both have fought their whole careers to get where they are, were outcasts in some popular circles, and now they have the positioning they do to work together on screen in the top storyline.

Its compelling situations like this which show us the reality of the landscape.

The reality that the PG rating isn't as influential as fans want to make it. Curse words and blood aren't needed for us all to anticipate the next Raw after finding out Heyman is with Punk.

The reality that Paul Heyman can get this many people talking by peaking his head out of a window, but yet he hasn't been a full time player for a wrestling company in a long time. What does that say about Heyman's talent and wrestling executives agendas?

The reality of a guy being the driver for another guy is so over because of who those guys are.

The reality that Heyman and Punk must have substantial decision making on what happens each week. Let them fill in some of the white board for Vince and give the 16 writers a break.

I'm curious about how CM Punk and Paul Heyman together gets booked. It seems more like a New World Order formula. They're rebels, they're booked against the face(s), but they're just too cool to not like.

Then again, perhaps its the John Cena formula. If every person in the arena has a strong opinion, regardless of cheers or boos, then it's a money maker.

As I said, if Heyman is involved, he isn't going to walk into something and allow it to flop. He just won't. Where other “part timers” might mark out to be back involved and back on WWE television―Heyman doesn't need it.

He would just as quickly say, “this is stupid” as someone else would “yes sir.”

You can start a conversation mad at him, by the end of the conversation, not only are you not mad at him, he's got you mad at yourself.

He's an entrepreneur. He builds from scratch. He stirs the pot. He's a good bull s******.  You have to be to survive in the wrestling/entertainment business for as long as he has, in the roles he has. He lives the gimmick.

Art imitating life is always the most successful.

It worked with Shawn versus Bret.

Putting Edge with Lita and letting them be hated after the Matt Hardy situation.

CM Punk's contract expiring last summer.

Well, CM Punk is a Paul Heyman guy. There are a lot of other guys who are Paul Heyman guys. Let them all do what they do best―entertain and keep people guessing about what happens next week.
