2012 College Football Week 2 Picks: Florida Upsets Texas A&M

The statistical inputs to the thousands of college football simulations are based on rigorous analysis of each team's roster, depth charts and statistically based player rankings. Roster modifications are made in cases of injury or suspension and those players are removed from their team's game simulation for that week.

Game of the Week: Florida at Texas A&M

The first weekend of the college football season was full of the usual pomp and circumstance, but for teams like Pittsburgh, Penn State, California, Michigan and Boise State, the parties ended and they had to clean up…alone.

Florida and Texas A&M didn't lose, but Week 1 certainly didn't go as planned.

Up until early in the fourth quarter on Saturday, Bowling Green State University actually had a shot to upset Florida down in the Swamp. The Falcons, out of the Mid-American Conference, hung with the SEC and if not for two missed field goals, we could be talking about this game as one of the biggest upsets of the weekend.

As for Texas A&M, the new kid on SEC Lane, their season opener at Louisiana Teach was postponed due to concerns surrounding Hurricane Isaac. So, their first game of the season is their home opener and first SEC contest against ‘dem Gators.

It also happens to be WhatIfSports.com's college football Game of the Week.

Gators' head coach Will Muschamp just named Jeff Driskell his starting quarterback on Monday. Driskell, 10-16 for 114 yards and a touchdown, played the majority of the game against Bowling Green. The rushing game racked up 220 yards on 42 carries (5.2 yards per rush) with two touchdowns as Mike Gillislee paced the team with 148 yards on 24 carries.

With all the newness surrounding the Aggies in 2012 comes a new head coach. Kevin Sumlin replaces Mike Sherman as the head honcho and,  lucky for him, part of the cupboard is still stocked with returning starters—six on offense and four on defense.

The Aggies averaged 39.1 points (11th in the nation) and 490.2 yards (seventh in the nation) per game in 2011. However, the team lost Ryan Tannehill to the NFL and will start freshman Johnny Manziel at quarterback. The good news for the green-faced gunner is that he has two senior receivers to throw to in Ryan Swope and Uzoma Nwachukwu.

We simulated the Gators and Aggies matchup 101 times and it's Florida coming out ahead 62.4 percent of the time by an average score of 21-18.
