Charl Schwartzel's Double Bogey Disaster Is Excruciating to Watch

Gabe ZaldivarJun 7, 2018

On his best day, Charl Schwartzel is winning the Masters. On his worst, he is looking like any one of us playing at a local municipal golf course.

On Sunday, the 2011 Masters champion stood with a mere three feet separating himself and a birdie on 18. Instead, he left with a double bogey and one hell of a blooper reel.

This video (h/t SportsGrid) really could feature just about any fair-weather golfer trying to sink a three-foot putt. If it had been Joe Nobody, the video would still be both painful and hilarious to watch.

The fact that one of the greatest golfers in the world struggles to finish off a near chip-in shot makes it altogether more bizarre.

Seriously, Mr. Titleist. Get in the damn hole.

Sure, the former Masters champ finished with an eight-over 79 at the Deutsche Bank Championship, and he is well back of the leaderboard overall on the weekend, but the dreaded No. 18 hole is what we will all remember.

It starts with a simple three-foot putt that goes in and out with a cringe-worthy exuberance. The first thought is, well at least he is going to hole out for par.

Nope.

It seems four times makes that charm as Schwartzel finishes out and miraculously doesn't chuck his putter and ball into the gallery of silenced fans.

I feel better about my own game right now.
