MLB Trade Rumors: 10 Untraded Impact Players Who Could Be Moved This Winter
There are many great players who could very well be traded this winter. It is inevitable. Teams change their focus, they discover that there are different holes that need filling and they pull off trades to make their teams as strong as possible going into the next season.
The major question is: Who is going to be traded? We all want to know if our favorite player will be playing somewhere different next year. So, I am going to try to lay out 10 players who have a good chance of being moved this winter for a variety of reasons that will be explained in more detail.
Alfonso Soriano, Chicago Cubs
1 of 10Alfonso Soriano always seems to be on the trade block, but the Chicago Cubs haven't been in a good position to trade him.
It will be different this winter, because he is actually having a strong season.
The previous problem was that nobody wanted to trade for an unproductive player with a large contract. He is looking much better now, and as the Cubs continue to rebuild, expect Soriano to finally find a new home.
Matt Garza, Chicago Cubs
2 of 10Matt Garza is another one that is always rumored to be on the move, and if the Chicago Cubs are ever going to move him, it will be this winter.
He is eligible for arbitration for one more season, but then he will probably hit the open market unless they negotiate a long-term extension.
If the Cubs want any substantial value in return for him, they will need to trade him this winter.
Elvis Andrus, Texas Rangers
3 of 10Elvis Andrus is a very strong shortstop in his own right, but the Rangers have another hot prospect breathing down his neck.
Jurickson Profar is one of the top prospects in baseball, and the Rangers are going to have him in the major leagues this September.
If he performs well, everyone knows that he will be the Texas Rangers' shortstop for a very long time, and Andrus would need a new home.
Gerardo Parra, Arizona Diamondbacks
4 of 10Gerardo Parra is a talented outfielder, but the Arizona Diamondbacks still have an overcrowded outfield with Jason Kubel, Chris Young and Justin Upton out there as well.
Parra could easily be starting for many other teams in major league baseball, so he would have value in the market.
They could convert his value into something that is much more useful than a fourth outfielder.
Tim Hudson, Atlanta Braves
5 of 10Tim Hudson has had a great tenure with the Atlanta Braves, and he is still an incredibly effective pitcher today.
That being said, the Atlanta Braves are also incredibly effective at turning out strong young pitchers.
Much of their success over the past 20 years can be attributed to this. Trading away Hudson would hurt right now, but they would be trading from a historical strength and hopefully enhancing their future.
Jeff Francoeur, Kansas City Royals
6 of 10Jeff Francoeur was once thought to be one of the best prospects in baseball.
While he didn't necessarily live up to all the hype, he is definitely a quality player who could be useful.
He has been useful in Kansas City, but with Wil Myers on the verge of breaking into the major leagues, and outfield might become crowded.
Trading Jeff Francoeur would make the most sense in this situation.
Matt Thornton, Chicago White Sox
7 of 10I know that this thought might be a little bit controversial, but when you look at the Chicago White Sox and their strong bullpen, putting left-handed pitcher Matt Thornton on the market might reap a considerable return.
Left-handed relievers are always in demand, and good ones are even more valuable.
With the emergence of Donnie Veal, the White Sox have options in their very strong bullpen.
Zack Cozart, Cincinnati Reds
8 of 10Zack Cozart is a rare shortstop that can hit for power.
However, the Cincinnati Reds don't necessarily need more power.
Also, Billy Hamilton seems ready to start stealing bases at the major league level, and he will add a totally different dimension to that offensive attack. Cozart is definitely good enough to be starting somewhere next season.
Ubaldo Jimenez, Cleveland Indians
9 of 10Ubaldo Jimenez is one of the more enigmatic pitchers of his generation.
He was brilliant at times for the Colorado Rockies, but this definitely has not carried over for the Cleveland Indians.
Perhaps he needs another change of scenery, and it really wouldn't hurt the Indians to try to find better options for the rotation. In a best-case scenario, Jimenez will be able to become a strong pitcher again and the Indians could get a strong package in return.
Daisuke Matsuzaka, Boston Red Sox
10 of 10Just like Ubaldo Jimenez, Daisuke Matsuzaka is another pitcher who has shown considerable talent but could definitely use a fresh start.
The Boston Red Sox have had an interesting season to say the least, and even though Matsuzaka has not necessarily been involved in any of the drama surrounding that team, it might not hurt for him to leave Boston and try to rediscover what made him so strong at the beginning of his career.
