Jaguars GM Gene Smith Says Team Not Planning to Trade Maurice Jones-Drew
Maurice Jones-Drew isn't going anywhere.
The veteran running back, whose current holdout has prevented him from setting foot on a practice field, has been the center of recent trade rumors, but Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Gene Smith put an end to those rumors.
The news comes via Vito Stellino of The Florida Times-Union:

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
"When Smith was asked by the Times-Union before the team's annual Kickoff Luncheon if there was any chance of a trade if he doesn't show up for the regular season, he said, "Maurice is a Jaguar.''
Smith was then asked, "So you are not considering trading him?" He replied, "No.''

Back to the standstill.
Holdouts happen all the time. Players demand more money, but when management refuses, the player usually cracks and returns to the field before the start of the regular season.
See: Mike Wallace this year and Darrelle Revis in the past.
But what makes Jones-Drew's situation so unique is it appears as if the veteran running back won't be backing down and is willing to miss real games.
With a trade now out of the question, that really narrows the options of where we can go from here. The Jaguars can back down and give Jones-Drew a new contract, even though they just gave him a front-loaded one in 2009. Or MoJo can give in and play for about $4.5 million.
Otherwise, this situation is going nowhere, and if Smith and the Jags are keeping Jones-Drew, it appears as though they are keeping him on the bench.
Hopefully, Rashad Jennings is ready to go.
