Washington Redskins Spend $181 Million in Two Days

brandon LamFeb 28, 2009

The Washington Redskins have always been a team that signed all the sexy name big free-agents in the past. The redskins added someone to that list when they added former Tennessee Tiants Defense tackle Albert Haynsweworth, to a $100 million contract for seven years.

That move came hours  After, the Redskins resigned cornerback Deangelo Hall to a $54 million contract for six years.

The Redskins did a great job retaining Hall and adding Haynseworth. They address their needs of acquiring a guy that can put pressure on the quarterback, and who can stop the run as well.

But people felt like they have need really address their needs on the offense side. They felt like the Redskins did not address their needs, of acquiring tackle or guard that can protect quarterback Jason Campbell.

The Redskins proved everybody wrong, as they added former Guard Derrick Dockery to a five year, $27 million contract.

The Redskins knew they had to improve their team coming into the 2009 season, they did a good job by making these additions.

But, Haynseworth is the guy who got all the attention on Friday. Since he signed the $100 million dollar contract, He feels like he can live up to the expectations.

"With the contract, it's going to be all on me," he said. "What they want me to come here and do is play football and be disruptive, do what I do, so that's what I've come here to do.

"When you get on the field, you're not thinking about dollar signs or anything like that, you're just going out there to play. It's a lot of money, but honestly, I put more pressure on myself than what the contract will do."

Hanseworth is known on stepping on Dallas Center Andre Gurode's face, leading to Gurode having 30 stitches. Haynseworth has moved on from that incident, and has stayed out of trouble the last two seasons.

"It really tested my faith as a person in myself. I had to really look into myself and to see if I wanted my career to go down the drain," said Haynesworth, who underwent counseling after the incident that led to his lengthy suspension.

Time will tell if the Redskins made the right deision of spending $181 million dollars on these three players. If not,They will go with all the bust free-agents the redskins brought in the past.
