US Open Tennis TV Schedule 2012: Day 3 Matches You Can't Miss

Timothy RappJun 1, 2018

Grand Slams generally don't get good until we hit the third or fourth rounds, but that doesn't mean there aren't plenty of matches or stars you should be checking out on Wednesday.

From one U.S. Open stalwart set to retire to a whole host of American players in action—and just as many of the top players set to begin what they hope will be a successful tournament—there is plenty to keep you entertained on Wednesday.

Be sure to check out all of the action tomorrow. And for the full U.S. Open television schedule, be sure to check out USOpen.org.

Kim Clijsters vs. Laura Robson

It's the final U.S. Open for Clijsters, a three-time winner of this event. And nothing says goodbye like a pretty tough opening match against Great Britain's Laura Robson, best known as a silver medalist alongside Andy Murray in mixed doubles at the London Olympics.

It's a generational clash, with Clijsters set to retire and the 18-year-old Robson still early in what looks to be a promising career. Clijsters should handle this match, but I think Robson will make her squirm a bit.

Big Stars in Action

Victoria Azarenka, Andy Murray, Maria Sharapova, David Ferrer, Petra Kvitova, Samantha Stosur and Na Li are all in action on Wednesday.

Sure, they will all likely cruise, but it's a good opportunity to evaluate some of the top contenders at this Grand Slam. Plus, Rafael Nadal bowed out of Wimbledon in the second round and Serena Williams was done at Roland Garros after the first round.

In other words, nothing is guaranteed. And do you really want to miss a huge upset if it happens?

I didn't think so.

USA! USA!

There are quite a few American players to cheer for on Wednesday.

John Isner takes on Xavier Malisse, Ryan Harrison has a bout with Benjamin Becker, Bradley Klahn will play Jurgen Melzer, Brian Baker lines up against Jan Hajek, Mallory Burdette faces Lucie Hradecka and Varvara Lepchenko matches up with Anastasia Rodionova.

It's a big day for the Red, White and Blue.

Hit me up on Twitter—my tweets have an ADP of one.
