Which NFL Roster Cuts Are Sure to Catch on With New Teams in 2012?

Jesse ReedAug 27, 2012

The New England Patriots let wide receiver Donte' Stallworth go during their first round of cuts on Monday, but he won't stay unemployed for long.

Stallworth isn't the only player who will catch on with a new team, either.

One man's trash is another man's treasure, and these players are going to find themselves on a flight to a new destination before too long.

Donte' Stallworth, Wide Receiver

To be perfectly honest, I was initially stunned that the Pats let Stallworth go—especially considering he was axed in the team's first round of cuts.

Stallworth is getting up there in age, but he's still a valuable asset in the passing game. He isn't as fast as he used to be, but he has reliable hands. According to Pro Football Focus, Stallworth only dropped one pass in 2011 for the Washington Redskins

A wide receiver-needy team like the Miami Dolphins should be in contact with the veteran pass-catcher sooner rather than later, and I fully expect him to be an active player for whichever team does pick him up.

Vince Young, Quarterback

Let's not kid ourselves, here. Young isn't a fabulous option at quarterback.

That said, there are a couple of teams that are in desperate need of someone to come in and shake things up a bit.

Young has proven in the past that he's capable of moving the chains and winning games. The Oakland Raiders and Arizona Cardinals might just be willing to give him a shot, as neither team has had any luck finding a starter worth keeping the past few years.

Deuce Lutui, Offensive Guard

Lutui was expected to be a lock for a roster spot in Seattle, but according to CBSSports.com's John Breech:

"

Seventh round draft pick J.R. Sweezy has changed all of that. Sweezy, who was drafted as a defensive end, was moved to guard before training camp and has so throughly impressed the coaching staff that Lutui became expendable.

"

Lutui has always been a solid guard. His biggest problem in the past has been keeping himself in shape. According to Yahoo! Sports' Doug Farrar, the big man has gone vegan and is doing much better in that regard.

A team like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which just lost Davin Joseph for the entire 2012 season, should jump at the chance to add a starting-quality guard to the roster.

Terrell Owens, Wide Receiver

I'm not a fan of TO. I don't like his me-first attitude, and his production value isn't high enough to warrant the fuss of keeping him on a roster.

That said, one team will be foolish enough to give him a shot.

He still has excellent speed, and he gets in and out of his cuts just as well has he always has. His hands will always be suspect, as we all saw during the last two preseason games with the Seattle Seahawks, but under the right circumstances he could potentially thrive.

Call me crazy, but I wouldn't be shocked to see him end up with the Minnesota Vikings
