Seahawks Cut Terrell Owens: Is This the End for T.O.?

Benjamin MottAug 26, 2012

In a move that is arguably unsurprising, the Seattle Seahawks have reportedly cut wide receiver Terrell Owens, according to a post on his Twitter page. This now begs the question of whether or not he'll get another chance.

Owens is now in the same boat as his good buddy, Chad Johnson, who was released a few weeks ago by the Miami Dolphins after being arrested for alleged domestic violence.

Unlike Johnson, however, T.O.'s release was due to his on-the-field performance. In two preseason games, he finished with two catches for 41 yards, all against the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday. His spot on the Seahawks' roster was cast into even more doubt after an inexplicable dropped pass two weeks ago against the Denver Broncos. The only thing that seemingly helped him is the fact that he, for the most part, kept quiet in the media in his short time in Seattle.

At the end of the day, with receivers like Golden Tate, Sidney Rice, Deon Butler and Ben Obomanu, Owens was never really a lock to be on the roster anyways, but that drop against the Broncos, along with the fact that he turns 39 years old in December, really hurt his chances of making the Seahawks' roster.

Owens did not play at all last season, and at this point, it's almost certain that he won't get a chance to play this season. As optimistic as he may be about finding work this season, it might be time for him to accept the fact that his days in the NFL are finished.

That's not to say that no one will at least give him a workout, but the possibility that he will be effective on anyone's roster at his point is very small. That being said, I wish him the best of luck in finding a new team.
