Davey Johnson Heard Screaming After 4-1 Loss to Philadelphia Phillies

Kenny DeJohnJun 7, 2018

The Washington Nationals, once baseball's best team, have stumbled of late. After losing 4-1 to the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday, the team endured its first four-game sweep since this past June.

At 77-50, Washington technically still owns the best record in baseball. The Cincinnati Reds also have 77 wins; however, that number is coupled with 52 losses. Both teams are 5-5 in their last 10 games.

Amidst the frustration of Sunday's lost, manager Davey Johnson was heard screaming behind a closed door, "You come down and manage the team."

Here's the full tweet from William Ladson:

"

Is there tension in the air? #Nats manager Davey Johnson was heard yelling at someone saying, "You come down and manage the team."

Now, it's uncertain as to whether or not the person on the receiving end of Johnson's remark was general manager Mike Rizzo, but there has been some speculation that he indeed was the victim.

Johnson's frustration is certainly warranted given his team's performance during its four-game skid. It's even more warranted when you consider the baserunning blunder in Sunday's loss.

After a Jayson Werth infield single, Adam LaRoche launched a ball that hit the very top of the wall in right field. The ball bounced back into play.

Both Werth and LaRoche thought that the ball had left the yard, so they subsequently entered their home-run trots.

When all was said and done, LaRoche was tagged out between second and third while Werth stayed put at third. The play was upheld after review.

Johnson was audibly upset about that play after the game:

"

Davey on the HR that wasn't: "My two veteran players took it for granted that the ball was a HR... You can't do that. You just can't do it."

— Amanda Comak (@acomak) August 26, 2012"

It remains to be seen how the Nationals will rebound from their recent skid, though there likely won't be any lingering effects from this recent scuffle between Johnson and the upper management.

Nationals baseball may have just gotten even more interesting.
