John Cena Must Defeat CM Punk for WWE Championship Immediately
John Cena should beat CM Punk to win the WWE title at Night of Champions.
It doesn’t have to be the cleanest of wins—in fact, everyone would prefer it if Cena gave Punk a taste of his own medicine and stole the pin—but Cena needs to walk out of the WWE’s next pay-per-view as the title holder.
With an added wrinkle to what has been a poorly-booked title reign, a surprise championship switch could infuse more interest into what Cena correctly characterized on Raw Monday night as an uneventful title stretch.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
Before the WWE Universe goes insane with the thought of another Cena title win, look at the reasons behind it and understand that this is all with the best interest of the company in mind.
John Cena Deserves A Title Run
It has been nine months since John Cena has held the title. Despite the fact that there is nothing wrong with going that long without one, this isn’t a normal WWE superstar were talking about; this is the face of the company, John Cena.
Cena is the face of everything the WWE does and needs to bring that star power back to the gold. As much as the fans love Punk, his influence and power is nothing compared to the clout Cena carries with the WWE Universe and within that company.
Even if this title reign is very short—something The Rock’s presence could influence—adding another chapter to a storied career will ensure the aura a star like Cena will carry when he gets older and doesn’t wrestle as much.
WWE is determined to have Cena pass Ric Flair’s 16 title runs, and handing him the strap now brings them one step closer.
Fuels the Full CM Punk Heel Turn
What everyone wants is the heel version of CM Punk that made us love him in the first place.
Just as Punk sat on the top of the ramp and called out the WWE management for his mistreatment, having the star lose his title to Cena at Night of Champions could trigger the completion of the slow-burn heel turn we’ve seen.
With subtle glimpses into his heel side when he leveled The Rock and kicked Jerry Lawler, Punk’s loss to Cena could be the final stage before he goes crazy and is full heel.
This could ultimately be the reason Punk faces Cena and The Rock for the title at the Royal Rumble and ultimately wins it back at WrestleMania 29.
Builds for The Rock vs. John Cena II and Beyond
Now with Punk chasing Cena, the WWE Universe will be torn once again like they were during the buildup to The Rock vs. John Cena part one.
Over the time between Night of Champions and Royal Rumble, heel Punk and Cena could feud until The Rock reappears.
From that point, the WWE could play it any way they wanted, with making it a three-way fight or giving the title to either Cena or Punk to feud with The Rock viable options.
As great as Punk has been throughout his title run, having to watch him hold the title until January is a long time—maybe too long.
Another Cena title run could break up the monotony and be the WWE’s saving grace.
