Brock Lesnar Says He's Retiring from WWE Following SummerSlam Victory

Ian HanfordJun 1, 2018

Brock Lesnar's victory over Triple H in SummerSlam's main event Sunday night wasn't shocking in the least, but his announcement on Monday will have the WWE fanbase scratching its collective head.

Lesnar announced via video on Paul Heyman's Tout account that he is walking away from the WWE for good. If you don't believe me, you can watch Lesnar's short announcement here.

Based on Lesnar's words, he obviously didn't carry high expectations for his WWE career. Saying things like "there's nothing left for me to conquer" is shocking. He didn't win a WWE title. Granted he did knock off one of the sport's largest icons, but so what?

I find it very hard to believe that this is what the WWE had in mind when it brought Lesnar back. He destroyed Shawn Michaels on the Monday Night Raw leading up to SummerSlam and then did the same to Triple H on the pay-perv-view event.

That doesn't seem like a storyline that's destined to go nowhere. I wouldn't dare call this hulking menace a liar, but this looks like something that will be used to create more drama down the line.

Plenty of pay-per-view shockers will be lined up for this year's WWE slate. Survivor Series, Royal Rumble and WrestleMania are all blockbuster events, and, at least until now, I expected Lesnar to have a prominent role in each of them.

Lesnar's announcement could be used to stir the pot some more. He's walked away before, and he hasn't established himself as a reliable long-term option for the company to work with, despite their obvious interest in making him a star presence.

Having him reappear unexpectedly as part of a surprise pay-per-view event would add to his current persona and still give him a chance to accomplish more in the ring.

This is an odd one. Lesnar's path seemed clear following his victory over Triple H Sunday night, but this throws a wrench in any thought process WWE fans had concerning his future endeavors.

Now we just have to wait and see where this one takes us. If I had to guess, I think we will see Lesnar inside a ring before the year is over.
