Maryland Terripans: A Team To Watch Out for

As a longtime Maryland Terripans fan, I admit it. You could hear my voice two weeks ago in the murmurs about Gary Williams needing to move on. But after an overtime victory against UNC, and a good fight against Duke, it looks like Maryland is going to become an elite team again.

Greivis Vasquez, Landon Milbourne, and Eric Hayes have breathed life into the drowning Terps with improved three-point shooting, better defense in the paint, and more overall energy.

The Terripans are not yet an elite team, but they are young. So in a year or two you could see Gary Williams' team make a run in the NCAA Tournament.

The Terps don't have a true center or a big guy, so they sometimes use three guards. The only problem is their guards are not good shooters, but they are feisty and good defenders. Without a center, the Terps commit more fouls than most teams. If Maryland gets a good big guy, watch out!

Dave Neal, Landon Milbourne, Dino Gregory, and Jerome Burney have all been tried at center, but are more natural at forward.

Milbourne has the potential to be a star if he would play forward more. Neal, the Terps' only senior, is a smart player, and his leadership will be missed. Gregory and Burney still need to figure things out, but they are young. Steve Goins, a freshman who has not gotten much time this year, could factor in when Neal leaves.

Eric Hayes, Jim Soo Kim, Sean Mosley, Greivis Vasquez, Adrian Bowie, and Cliff Tucker can all play guard and forward.

Hayes is the most natural at guard of all of them, and he is also the Terps' best shooter. Jim Soo Kim could be a senior in high school, and has potential to be a very good forward. Sean Mosley is also a freshman. Vasquez will be a senior next year, and he has shown improvements in every year. Adrian Bowie is a scrappy and fast player. Cliff Tucker can shoot, and he will have a chance to start next season.

Duke, UNC, and Wake Forest better watch out in the ACC Tournament, because you always need to fear the turtle!
