WWE News: Company Banning Certain Moves for Saturday Morning Slam Matches

Well this one comes out of left field.

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't WWE founded on wrestling matches and age-old moves like the headlock?

Now, news is coming from WrestleZone.com, that WWE is looking to edit out certain moves from its latest TV show.

The article states:

WZ has learned that the matches taped for Saturday Morning Slam are not to feature moves aimed at the neck, which would include anything from a simple headlock to an RKO.

At this point the feeling is that moves performed to the neck might come off as too violent, so WWE is avoiding any type of offense that gives the appearance of "snapping" or targeting the neck area.

It remains to be seen if this is a rule WWE will adhere to long term, but it's being said that the first match taped for Slam, which took place at this week's Smackdown taping, did not feature any offense aimed at the neck.

Really!?!

A headlock is considered a violent move? What about the Brogue Kick, Code-breaker, or better yet the GTS? These moves not only look—but give the feel of being—more painful and violent than a headlock or RKO.

I have to say as a child of the '80s, I am amazed that the WWE would go this far for a Saturday morning show. Especially considering its former flag-ship show, Superstars (which also aired Saturday mornings), featured many a headlock, sleeper hold, etc. 

Overall, with the exception of the RKO, this will probably go unnoticed. However, I have to wonder if Orton will now have to come up with a secondary finisher.

Let's face it, it might be a bit odd if Orton uses a special finisher just for Saturday mornings and not on Raw or SmackDown. Ultimately, once you start taking things away, it opens the flood gates for future bans and could hurt the product.

In the end, this just goes to show we live in such a different climate than we were just a few short years ago. I personally hope WWE stops worrying about special interests, comes to its senses and gets back to entertaining the fans.
