Dustin Pedroia Doesn't Think Bobby Valentine Deserves to Be Fired

Adam WellsJun 5, 2018

Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia, while not completely supporting his manager, told reporters on Tuesday night that he does not think Bobby Valentine should be fired.

After the Red Sox lost to the Orioles on Tuesday, a group of reporters huddled around Pedroia's locker to ask him about Valentine, as well as the season the team has had. He responded by saying that what has happened is not Valentine's fault (via NESN.com).

"

We're trying to play the game the right way, and have an organization that does things right; just play winning baseball. Stuff comes out that everyone is trying to get the manager fired. That's not the case, man.

I don't think Bobby should be fired. Listen, we haven't played well, that's the bottom line. I'm not gonna blame anything on Bobby.

This came just hours after Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports reported that a group of Red Sox players met with ownership to discuss Valentine and the job he has done with the team this season.

The meeting reportedly got "heated," with Pedroia and Adrian Gonzalez being "among the most vocal."

Pedroia has already had certain issues with the way Valentine does things, calling the manager out after he threw Kevin Youkilis under the bus earlier this season (via Tom Caron of NESN).

As crazy as things looked last season with the chicken and beer situation, which was completely overblown, they are multiplied tenfold right now.
