Best New Feature
Physics Based Infinity Engine
If there was one flaw with the 2012 edition of Madden—besides cursing Peyton Hillis and almost sabotaging my fantasy season—it was the lack of innovation in the tackling mechanics.
While 2011 had upgraded the technology quite a bit, last year’s didn’t really push the boundaries.
This year, though, the developers at EA Sports went back to the drawing board and drastically rebuilt the way tackling is done in the game.
With better collision detection and an increased emphasis on the physics of the actual game of football, there is no doubt that this will have the true football fans feeling like they are watching the closest thing to a real game they could imagine.
What We Can’t Wait For
Total Control Passing
With the NFL shifting their mindset to a pass-first league, the Madden technicians crafted the most precise passing engine a football video game fan could ever need.
Drastic improvements on pump-faking and deep-pass accuracy for quarterbacks with the ability make this QB system the best in the franchise’s history.
While having San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith in the demo seriously limits how much of the new engine you can actually use, fans of the game series will see the difference when using guys like Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers.
Improved Presentation
The emphasis of every sports video game is to try and look as close to reality as possible; Madden '13 takes big steps towards much-improved visual presentation.
Madden has always been on the forefront of introducing the best graphics available, but this year’s edition will feature better cut scenes, better usage of replays and better viewpoints before and after plays.
While there are still many aspects of the game yet to be unveiled to the public, if they are half as promising as this demo leads me to believe, this is a serious candidate for game of the year.
