Evelyn Lozada: VH1 Had No Choice but to Cancel Reality Show
In the aftermath of his arrest for domestic battery involving his wife Evelyn Lozada, Chad Johnson is running out of jobs.
First, the once dominant wide receiver was released from the Miami Dolphins. Now the other shoe has dropped as VH1 has announced that the couple's planned upcoming reality show "Ev & Ocho" has been scrapped (per USA Today).
This is news that should have been a forgone conclusion, but in the world of reality TV, the only safe assumption is that producers and networks will bow down to the almighty ratings; and let's face it, this unfortunate situation between Ev and Ocho would probably only boost ratings.
So I applaud VH1 for making the only reasonable choice, and that is to pull a show they had already filmed a season's worth of material for.
There are obviously serious issues in this relationship, and those do not need to be exploited or perpetuated by a reality show.
There is sure to be more details from this incident that will come out, and the majority of details at this point fall into the allegation stage; but we know enough to know that running this show would be reckless.
USA Today's Kevin Manahan reported:
"[Lozada] had a three-inch gash on her forehead, according to Davie, Fla. police,[and] told officers she wanted to press charges, and signed an affidavit stating such.
"
Manahan also passed along this statement from VH1 saying they pulled the show due to, "unfortunate events over the weekend and the seriousness of the allegations."
Johnson and Lozada need to work on finding a solution to whatever is at the root of the problem that led to this incident.
They don't need to do that while under the increased spotlight and scrutiny that their reality TV show would bring. VH1 did the right thing by getting out the message to the public that these kinds of serious allegations need to be dealt with and not exploited for ratings.
