Cena vs. CM Punk vs. Big Show Results: CM Punk Retains WWE Championship
First, CM Punk was given a heel turn that looked like one of the best things WWE was going to do this year. Now, after a battle with The Big Show and John Cena at SummerSlam, Punk remains WWE champion.
This is the 10th consecutive pay-per-view that Punk has walked out of as champion. Considering how much WWE loves to switch the title at the drop of a hat just to get a ratings jump the next night on Raw, this is one of the most remarkable title runs in a long, long time.
Dating all the way back to Survivor Series, Punk has been the wrestler holding the strap, though a lot of that can be attributed to the fact that he hasn't gone up against anyone who WWE would trust holding the championship.

Possible WWE Feuds For Roman Reigns After Jacob Fatu Match

Buzz: Vaquer Could Miss SummerSlam 🤕
Between the Miz, Alberto Del Rio, Dolph Ziggler and Daniel Bryan, you can see where WWE would not want to put the title on them. No matter how good Ziggler and Bryan are in the ring, they aren't prototypical WWE champions.
Chris Jericho was the only challenger who seemed like a real threat to defeat Punk, but that wasn't what his job was when he returned in January. He was there to help make Punk look stronger, which he did.
If ever there was a pay-per-view where it seemed like Punk's reign was going to come to an end, SummerSlam would be it. Not only is the major event where you would look for a title change, but the addition of John Cena to the match made it almost a given that a new champion would be crowned.
Credit WWE for trusting Punk, even if it is just for a few more weeks, to keep the title. Having him turn heel before losing the title would not have made a lot of sense.
