Free-agent wide receiver Plaxico Burress will work out for the New England Patriots. He is flying to New England today to participate in his first workout of the offseason.
Adam Schefter broke the story via Twitter Sunday morning after a source tipped him off to the event:

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Burress missed the 2009 and 2010 NFL seasons after serving a prison sentence for accidentally discharging his firearm and shooting himself in the leg at a nightclub in the process. In 2011, though, he came back swinging with a 45-catch, 612-yard season in which he hauled in eight touchdowns for the New York Jets.
He did all that in a comeback season and in a passing offense that leaves much to be desired. You have to wonder what he can do in a high-flying, pass-first offense like that of the Patriots.
How exactly does Plax fit with the Pats, though? Since the departure of Randy Moss, Tom Brady has relied heavily on his tight ends in short-yardage and goal-line situations due to the lack of size of his receivers.
An addition of the 6’5” Burress would help their efficiency immensely in those situations and take some of the heat off of Rob Gronkowski.
The team already has standout pass-catchers monopolizing the highlight reels in Wes Welker and Gronkowski. An added threat of Burress and recently acquired Brandon Lloyd would propel the already-prolific Patriots passing game to one of the most potent in the NFL today.
