NFC North Tweets and Mailbag Questions for August 10, 2012

Andrew GardaJun 6, 2018

Happy football people!

Another week in the books, another step closer to the real year and another Tweet Mailbag.

Today we have comments from you guys on the Packers and Bears games, as well as some questions and comments on the Vikings and Lions.

Let's get to it.

The Packers had a difficult time against the Chargers on Thursday, including some rough moments such as a fumble by James Starks, some scary whacks on Aaron Rodgers, and offensive line issues.

Here's what you guys had to say about it:

You know what they say: don't panic.

For the most part, you guys sounded confident, thinking that the bad beats on Thursday were just aberrations.

As noted above, rookie Nick Perry looked good. Jerel Worthy didn't do much, but I wouldn't worry yet. If the defense can generate a pass rush, this team will be very scary. Except perhaps James Starks, who may be getting a new friend in Cedric Benson.

Benson would be an interesting addition to this offense. Sure, they don't run much—then again they don't have to. But it's a luxury that might help them out.

Bears fans are a tad more concerned of course, and to some extent, with good reason.

The left tackle is the one thing which could take this team down.

Yes, it's only one game and yes, it's early but J'Marcus Webb was out-manned and Lance Louis was pretty ugly as well. It'd be a shame if the team had to waste a tight end or fullback to stay in and block in case the line broke down.

It's not the end of the world, but it is definitely a sticking point which can hold them back.

The problem is, there just isn't much out there. That's the catch with a position like left tackle—if a guy is available, there is a damned good reason for it.

The Bears might also try to build the line around Webb and get better players around him to help out.

That's not any easier though. The Bears kept the cards they were dealt rather than turn them in. Now they are kind of stuck with them, for good or ill.

The Lions are playing as I write this, but Lions fans had plenty to talk about even before the game.

Dwight "Little Bill" Bentley had a very nice game, including an interception. I liked what I saw from him and Tahir Whitehead even in limited action.

Everette Brown also looked very good. Defensively, this team might be coming together.

For Vikings fans, Christian Ponder is the key and, against a rough San Fran defense, I'd say he looked OK. Especially given that he was missing some key pieces.

Overall, it's a team that is rebuilding and looked rough. However, I thought Ponder was fine, Kyle Rudolph was good, and with the exception of a ridiculous Colin Kaepernick run, the defense looked solid as well.

The Vikings have a lot of potential this year.
