Cardinals vs. Chiefs: TV Schedule, Live Stream, Radio, Game Time and More
A lot will be learned in the NFL preseason matchup between the Arizona Cardinals and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Unfortunately, the vast majority of knowledge gained in this game will be entirely useless and in no way helpful for predicting how either of these teams or their players will do during the regular season.
Still, the first round of exhibition games means that the NFL is back, and that is fantastic news.

What’s At Stake
Every preseason match is extremely important to all the players no one has ever heard of. The undrafted free agents, the journeymen looking for one last shot at NFL glory and the practice squad players hoping to get into the spotlight will all be fighting tooth-and-nail for a spot on the final 53-man roster.
For the starters, the only thing at stake is their health. The Chiefs in particular were ravaged by injuries last season, and important players like Jamaal Charles and Eric Berry must not get hurt in any exhibition game.
Fantasy Prospect to Watch: Jamaal Charles
Charles was a top-10 pick in fantasy football last season but unfortunately tore his ACL in the Chiefs' Week 2 loss to the Detroit Lions. It was a devastating blow to a gifted player.
The running back led all players at his position with 6.4 yards per carry in 2010 and was a threat to score on any play. Charles will likely see a few reps in the matchup with the Cardinals, and those considering drafting him should watch to see if he has the same explosiveness he had prior to his injury.
What They’re Saying
ESPN’s AFC West blogger Bill Williamson notes that the presence of Charles, Eric Berry and Tony Moeaki is an extremely positive sign for Kansas City.
"Kansas City coach Romeo Crennel told reporters safety Eric Berry, running backJamaal Charles and tight end Tony Moeaki will play Friday against Arizona in the team’s preseason opener. All three tore an ACL in their knees last September and were lost for the season.
All three are obviously doing well and making strides. If not, they wouldn’t be playing Friday. I don’t expect any of the players to play extensively Friday, but it is an important step that they are playing."
Chiefs Player to Watch: Eric Berry
Berry has the potential to be a premier player in the NFL. He can be a dominant safety in the mold of Ed Reed or Troy Polamalu.
His career took a setback with his knee injury, but Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star noted that Berry looked to be fully healthy in the team’s recent joint practice with the Cardinals.
Teicher reports that the safety went up against Larry Fitzgerald and held his own. If he is at full strength this season, he will dramatically improve the Chiefs defense.
As Williamson notes, his night will be brief, but it will be worth keeping an eye on him to see how well he is moving.
Cardinals Player to Watch: Kevin Kolb
The Cardinals paid a hefty price to get Kolb from the Philadelphia Eagles, with the hopes that he could be their franchise quarterback.
There have not been many signs that this will be the case, and Kolb did not perform well in Arizona’s first preseason game against the New Orleans Saints.
He threw just four passes before leaving due to bruised ribs, and the only one he managed to complete was to Malcolm Jenkins, who plays for New Orleans.
This may be the final year the Cardinals tolerate Kolb’s underwhelming performances, and he would do well for himself to build confidence during these preseason games.
Key Matchup: Cardinals Third- and Fourth-Stringers vs. Chiefs Third- and Fourth-Stringers
The starters in these matchups never decide the outcome. The players who will feature during the regular season will take a few snaps then relax for the remainder of the evening.
The players currently sitting third or fourth on the depth chart at their position will receive the bulk of the playing time and score most of the points.
There may be a no-name player who explodes with an excellent performance and earns a spot on the roster, but in all likelihood, this will feature a lot of blue-collar guys just trying not to screw up.
Prediction
The Chiefs have home-field advantage and a chip on their collective shoulder. They were a playoff team in 2010 before turning in a disappointing 2011 campaign because of injuries.
They will be looking to prove that they can return to the postseason from the very first snap this year, and that will lead to the Cardinals' second straight loss.
