MLB: St. Louis Fan Points Laser at Mike Matheny, Shane Loux at Cardinals Game

Zachary JamesJun 7, 2018

Kids can pull some funny pranks sometimes. But in some instances, like at Busch Stadium on Tuesday, they can be just plain dumb.

A prime example of this is the 17-year-old kid who got arrested for pointing a laser at St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny and San Francisco Giants reliever Shane Loux.

As reported by Christine Byers with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday spotted a light on Loux during the bottom of the seventh inning.

What's more, Matheny actually spotted the boys when they shined the light on the manager's head.

After doing so, Matheny mouthed the words "I caught you," and the kids were happily entertained.

“It’s not like he did it the one time and said, ‘Ooh, that’s probably not a good idea.’ The whole dugout jumped up trying to find him, and then he kept doing it," said Matheny (via STLToday.com).

They were located in a suite along the first base line, and were caught by Busch Stadium security and St. Louis police before leaving the stadium.

There were three boys involved in this ordeal. While they were trying to escape Busch Stadium, the boy who had the laser threw it away.

Nice try, kid, but the authorities were behind you the entire time and found your laser.

All three were arrested and booked for suspicion of peace disturbance at an athletic event. They made bail which was $150.

There's one more twist to this story.

The suite that the hooligans were occupying was that of Mercy Health of St. Louis.

As David Brown of Big League Stew writes, there were many teens in the room with some alcohol in it. However, they were not alone.

There was an adult present, and when authorities arrived to the suite, the chaperone, who is said to be an executive with Mercy Health, was uncooperative with the investigation.

Way to be a role model, pal.

The laser was just a "childish" prank, but it could have been worse. In the crazy world we live in, and based off what happened in Colorado a few weeks ago, precautionary measures need to be taken.

Did the kid know what he was doing? Yes.

Did he know how dangerous of a prank he performed? Let's hope he does now.

The Giants went on to win the game 4-2.
