WWE News: Big Update on Charlie Sheen/Daniel Bryan Storyline

Sharon GlencrossJun 3, 2018

So what do WWE have planned for Anger Management star Charlie Sheen?

Sheen was, of course, all over Raw's 1,000th episode last week, giving his (often funny) thoughts on the show live via Skype to the announcers.

Most notably, the Oscar-nominated actor had some harsh words for Daniel, berating him for his poor treatment of his girlfriend AJ and making some harsh remarks about his appearance, even claiming the former World Heavyweight Champion looked like "a goat."

Unsurprisingly, Bryan wasn't too pleased and, in a backstage interview, angrily vowed to get revenge on Sheen at some point in the future, most likely at the upcoming SummerSlam pay-per-view, which takes place in Los Angeles.

In this week's (subscribers only) F4W Newsletter, Bryan Alvarez gives an update on the current angle, noting that the current plan is for the two men to have a confrontation, but not at a match at the event.

"

As of several days ago, the idea was not for Daniel Bryan and Charlie Sheen to do a match at SummerSlam...but rather to build up to shooting an angle at the PPV. Most likely it will be a deal where Bryan dares Sheen to show up, and then Sheen slaps him or throws a drink on him or puts him through a table or whatever physical spot they have planned.

"

Alvarez goes on to note that WWE, aware of Sheen's mega-stardom and A-list status, are anticipating big things for the angle:

"

The idea, obviously, is to both sell SummerSlam buys and also film something that might make TMZ TV, Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, etc., the day after the show. The company is expecting "crazy" media coverage for whatever it is they have planned.

"

On the surface, this is quite the boon for WWE. Sheen is easily the biggest mainstream celebrity the company has had since Donald Trump's involvement at WrestleMania 23 in 2007, and the actor undoubtedly has a train-wreck charisma that garners tremendous interest in whatever he does.

However, the relatively disappointing ratings of FX's Anger Management, heralded as Sheen's big comeback to television, raise the question of just how much lasting appeal he truly has these days.

Sheen will no doubt be getting paid a huge sum of money for his participation in the angle, and it will be interesting to see if he can justify it by significantly raising ratings and/or the SummerSlam buyrate.
