Jose Mourinho a Possible Match for Man City: Special Case Needs Special Man

Mark Hughes must be so fed up with the press. I'm sure he's cancelled his deliveries from his local paper. Each story printed about City talks of either unrest in the dressing room or how much is left of the Welshman’s reign.

It is hardly surprising, given the extraordinary circumstances at Eastlands: fabulously wealthy owners, superstar signings, humiliating Cup defeats, embarrassing league defeats, and allegations of misconduct by players off the field.

Then, there's that appalling away record. City has just one win away from home all season and only a points haul from away games only marginally better than that of Fulham, Stoke, and West Brom.

But put in perspective, fans of City must expect this from their team, assuming they've followed them as long as I have!

Of particular interest today are the reports that Jose Mourinho has allegedly hinted to friends that he wishes to return to the Premier League next season. And what better place for him to come to than Manchester City?

Mourinho, whose track record speaks for itself, is exactly the special manager that Manchester City needs and (if he's really available) must get.  

But would Mourinho come to City? As far-fetched as it may seem to some, I think the answer is "yes."

Firstly, he would have far more resources to mold his team than he ever did at Chelsea. Producing another successful Premier League side would be the ultimate slap in the face of Roman Abramovich, given the way his time ended with Chelsea.

Secondly, with the opportunity to turn City into a force also open to long-time adversary Ferguson, this may prove too tempting a proposition to turn down. Imagine the scowl on Fergie’s face should City actually have the audacity to win anything.

Also, the sheer scale of the project of turning City into a world force and outstripping fierce rivals United may prove intriguing to him.

Time will undoubtedly tell, but for me, the summer cannot come quickly enough.
