Can Someone Explain Why Alexandre Song Is Still with Arsenal?

Callum D'SouzaFeb 22, 2009

Arsenal suffered their third straight Premiership draw in what was a somewhat interesting match—but frustrating none the less. Sunderland came to the Emirates with intentions to play out a draw, meanwhile Arsenal had a chance to capitalize on a rare Aston Villa loss—yet failed to do so.

It was a relatively strong Arsenal squad excluding Alexandre Song. It was a lineup that you would expect to wreck Sunderland. Credit to Sunderland; they were solid and never really looked like conceding a goal.

Song was easily the most disappointing player on the pitch. It's what we have come to expect now from the Cameroon midfield. As per usual his passes were astray, almost as if he though he was part of Ricky Sprazers side. His defence was frail and lazy and his movement was close to standstill.

He continually heaped pressure on his center midfield partner Denilson in defence and attack.

I seem to be the only one who does not believe Song should not be part of this Arsenal squad.

Consistently he has played poorly ever since joining the Gunners in 2006. I do not see what Wenger see's in Song—maybe a glimpse of Vieria, maybe some shining star that will lead Arsenal to greatness in the future.

Whatever it is, I don't see it, and I believe Song should be dropped from the Arsenal squad.

One of the reasons Arsenal is struggling to make the top four is their central midfielding problems. Arsenal has persistently struggled this season with their midfield, the defending and attacking has struggled, fair enough the likes of Francesc Fabregas, Abou Diaby, and Theo Walcott are all injured, but that just means players like Song need to step up.

Song has never stepped up and yet Wenger plays him week in week out.

Aaron Ramsey, Mark Randall, and Amuary Bischoff may be teenagers, but I can't see them doing any worse then Song.

It is shaping out that the only way Arsenal will make the Champions League is if they win it, they can make a great start by playing a central midfield that has talent.
